DIC and AOL Online Kids Site, KOL, Co-Produce Saturday Morning Schedule, "KOL's Secret Slumber Party On CBS"
Series Include "Madeline," "Sabrina: The Animated Series," "Trollz," "Horseland," "CAKE" and "Dance Revolution!"
CBS, DIC and AOL present "KOL's Secret Slumber Party on CBS" set to premiere Saturday, Sept. 16 on the CBS Television Network. The three-hour, E/I-compliant branded programming block exclusive to broadcast television is comprised of four animated series and two new live-action shows. The slate includes "Madeline," "Sabrina: The Animated Series," "Trollz," "Horseland," "CAKE" and "Dance Revolution!" The targeted audience for this programming block is children ages 6 through 12.
Within this programming, KOL (AOL's online destination for kids), which is co-producing the Secret Slumber Party with DIC, will create interstitials on healthy eating that will air during the block and online utilizing the Slumber Party Girls, an ensemble of five fresh, talented and ethnically diverse teen girls who sing, dance and act. As five best friends who chat about boys and homework, they also serve as role models by making positive onscreen choices such as drinking plenty of water and eating a variety of fruits and vegetables. In addition, PSAs featuring KOL's popular original animated character, "Princess Natasha," will also reinforce these messages with topics regarding diet, exercise and lifestyle choices.
In addition, KOL and DIC will develop a web-destination designed to transform the programs airing on "KOL's Secret Slumber Party on CBS" into a comprehensive and interactive experience for kids, including games, program clips and behind-the-scenes features in support of the program schedule.
The following are the program descriptions with ratings:
MADELINE, (E/I, 5-7, TVY) based on Ludwig Bemelmans' classic books, stars a clever little red-headed girl whose capricious antics have won the hearts of children, parents and educators everywhere. Narrated in rhyme by Tony and Emmy Award winner Christopher Plummer, MADELINE has been recognized as one of the highest quality animated programs produced for television. The program's many awards include a Cable ACE Award for children's series, TV Guide's Top Ten Children's Programs and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Series in 2002.
SABRINA: THE ANIMATED SERIES, (E/I, 7-12, TVY 7) a companion to the ever-popular and long-running hit series "Sabrina: The Teenage Witch," follows Sabrina Spellman, a cute 12-year-old with a big heart and an even bigger secret: she's half mortal and half witch! While her lessons in how to be a good witch are demanding, they pale in comparison to what she must learn to be a good person, and that human attributes such as loyalty, honesty, tolerance and perseverance are the true lessons to learn.
TROLLZ (E/I, 8-12, TVY 7) follows the animated adventures of five best friends who live by the credo B.F.F.L., Best Friends for Life. The storylines reflect the everyday life of today's young teens -- the trials and tribulations of teenage friendships, and dealing with such issues as popularity, love, loyalty, identity and integrity. While they have real teen issues, they are also interested in fashion, hair, malls, "spell phones," magic, parties and all the fun that goes with being a teen.
HORSELAND, (E/I, 9-11, TVY 7) featuring CGI and traditional animation, is set in the greatest stable ever where kids and their horses compete and have adventures, and the horses and other animals can talk to each other -- about the humans! Each episode features themes that deal with issues such as compassion, honesty and cooperation -- both human and equine.
CAKE (E/I, 8-12, TVY 7) is a live-action show-within-a-show about a teenaged girl named Cake. Cake, based on a concept created by Barbara Miller and Maia Terzian, hosts a cable access show, "Cake TV," with the help of her three best friends, Miracle, Amy and Benjamin. The show is produced out of Cake's grandmother's old Airstream trailer and co-hosted by the three girls who show their audience (and each other) how to take ordinary, everyday items (t-shirts, cd cases, lamp shades) and make them extraordinary with a little imagination (and a glue gun!). Benjamin serves as the show's producer, cameraman, soundman and gofer. Cake's motto: "You can't buy individuality, but you can make it!"
DANCE REVOLUTION! (E/I, 8-12, TVY 7) Tweens and teens bring their freshest moves to Dance Revolution!, the sensational dance competition where dancers compete in teams of two (a.k.a. "dance crews") as they are challenged to incorporate innovative moves into their existing choreography and create revolutionary' new routines. Inspired by the hit video game franchise, Dance Dance Revolution, KOL's very own DJ Rick Adams will host the show along with kid-friendly celebrity judges who will determine the winners as the dance crews perform to the sounds of the Dance Revolution house band, the Slumber Party Girls (SPG).
