NBC GETTING 'PSYCHED' FOR MONDAYS IN AUGUST WITH RE-BROADCASTS OF NEW USA NETWORK HIT SERIES, 'PSYCH' ON AUGUST 7 AND 14

BURBANK, Calif. -- July 21, 2006 -- NBC looks to "psych" up viewers on hot August Monday nights by featuring one of this summer's biggest cable hits with two re-broadcasts of USA Network's new hit series, "Psych" on Monday, August 7 and Monday, August 14 (both 8-9 p.m. ET).

Debuting as the highest-rated new scripted series on basic cable this year, "Psych" premiered with a 90-minute pilot on USA Network July 7, and will continue airing original one-hour episodes for the remainder of the season (10-11 p.m. ET). The quick-witted one-hour drama was created and written by feature writer, Steve Franks ("Big Daddy"), and continues USA's tradition of original scripted programming centering on quirky, intelligent characters.

"Psych" stars James Roday ("Miss Match," "The Dukes of Hazzard") as young police consultant Shawn Spencer, who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute the precinct detectives think he's psychic -- or at least that's what he lets them believe. Also starring are Dul Hill ("The West Wing") as Shawn's best friend and reluctant sidekick Gus, and Corbin Bernsen ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," "L.A. Law") as Shawn's disapproving father, who ironically was the one who honed his son's "observation" skills as a child. Timothy Omundson ("Judging Amy," "Deadwood"), Maggie Lawson ("Crumbs," "Inside Schwartz") and Kirsten Nelson ("Everwood," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") also star.

The first episode to be broadcast on NBC will be "Spellingg Bee," on August 7, in which Shawn and Gus investigate the mysterious death of the Spellmaster at the Regional Spelling Bee.

The second installment on August 14 will be "Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Piece," where Shawn and Gus crash a high-society wedding in order to recover a priceless stolen antique engagement ring before the ceremony ends.

The July 7 premiere of "Psych" was the #1 program on cable in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, averaging 2.461 million adults 18-49, 2.762 million adults 25-54 and 6.056 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. "Psych" is now the most-watched series premiere of 2006 on cable (adults 25-54 and total viewers) and USA's most-watched series premiere by all key measures in two years (since "The 4400" on July 11, 2004). "Psych" is also the highest-rated Friday series premiere ever in basic cable primetime in both adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.

On July 14, the series was the #1 program on cable in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, delivering a 3.7 household coverage rating and averaging 1.924 million adults 18-49, 2.362 million adults 25-54 and 4.712 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. "Psych" grew versus its "Monk" lead-in, increasing by 13 percent in adults 18-49.

"Psych" is executive-produced by Steve Franks ("Big Daddy") in association with Tagline Pictures' Kelly Kulchack and Chris Henze and NBC Universal Television Studios. Jack Sakmar & Kerry Lenhart ("Boston Public," "Ed") and Mel Damski ("Picket Fences") are co-executive producers, Douglas Steinberg ("Boston Public") is consulting producer. Story editor is Anupam Nigam and Andy Berman serves as staff writer.
