ABC TELEVISION NETWORK TO RE-LAUNCH A BETTER COMMUNITY PUBLIC SERVICE CAMPAIGN DESIGNED TO INSPIRE VOLUNTEERISM

Campaign to Incorporate PSAs Featuring ABC Stars, Web Content, Affiliate Specials and Community Events

ABC Television Network announced today that it will re-launch its public service campaign, A Better Community, with a single focus inspiring viewers to volunteer in their communities. Consisting of public service announcements (PSAs), online content at ABetterCommunity.com, affiliate specials and community events, the new campaign will debut on MONDAY, APRIL 10 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) with the airing of a PSA featuring Commander In Chief star Geena Davis during ABCs broadcast of The Ten Commandments.

With an all-new look and message, A Better Community is designed to utilize the broad reach of the ABC Television Network, the positive influence of talent and the power of on- and off-air programming to inspire individuals to make a difference in their communities through volunteerism and public service. This marks the first time ABC has focused its A Better Community-branded efforts on one specific topic.

ABC is focusing A Better Community on volunteerism because the idea of giving back to ones community is of high importance to the Network, our talent and our viewers its a call to action we are confident will resonate with viewers of all ages and backgrounds, said Brad Jamison, vice president for ABCs Corporate Initiatives who is responsible for the campaign. Volunteering is something that everyone can do, regardless of personal interests or talents something that is beneficial not only to those who receive the goodwill of others, but also to the volunteers themselves. It can truly be life-changing for everyone, and ABC hopes to help foster that by reminding our viewers that volunteering is not only important, but fun, easy and rewarding.

The centerpiece of the campaign is a series of PSAs that will air on the Network and affiliates throughout all day parts. The spots feature talent from ABC News, ABC Daytime, ABC Primetime and ABC Kids, who deliver pro-volunteering messages along with the call to action, get involved and help build A Better Community. Each PSA encourages viewers to log onto ABetterCommunity.com where they will find tips on how to get involved, profiles of various national non-profits that offer volunteer opportunities, special features on Network initiatives, behind-the-scenes looks at the campaign and more.

Im happy to be a part of ABCs A Better Community program because I think its really going to make a difference to bring more awareness and attention to volunteering and encouraging it in a fun and positive way, said Geena Davis. I think its a fantastic project and Im all for volunteering, which has been an important part of my life. As an incredibly great side benefit, not only do you feel good about yourself, you learn things about yourself and find strengths you didnt know you had.

Davis joins an impressive roster of ABC talent taking part in the campaign, including Joy Behar (The View), Tom Bergeron (Americas Funniest Home Videos/Dancing with the Stars), Kamar de los Reyes (One Life to Live), Elisabeth Hasselbeck (The View), Cameron Mathison (All My Children), Alicia Minshew (All My Children), Star Jones Reynolds (The View), Robin Roberts (Good Morning America), Kate Snow (Good Morning America Weekend Edition), Doug Savant (Desperate Housewives), Jason Thompson (General Hospital), Courtney Thorne-Smith (According to Jim), Ashley Tisdale (The Suite Life of Zach and Cody), Elizabeth Vargas (World News Tonight/20/20), Meredith Vieira (The View), Barbara Walters (ABC News/The View), Isaiah Washington (Greys Anatomy) and Bree Williamson (One Life to Live).

In addition to the PSAs, the campaign will feature half-hour specials focused on volunteerism, which will be aired on participating affiliate stations. Affiliates will also have opportunities to host or sponsor local community events associated with the national A Better Community initiative.
