CBS NEWS IS HONORED WITH FOUR AWRT AWARDS -- "60 MINUTES" RECEIVES THREE AWARDS AND "THE EARLY SHOW" RECEIVES ONE AWARD
CBS News has been honored with four American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) Gracie Awards, in recognition of quality television programs that are by, for and about women. 60 MINUTES received three awards and THE EARLY SHOW received one award. The awards will be presented on Monday, June 19, 2006 in New York City.
60 MINUTES Correspondent Lesley Stahl received an award for Outstanding Portrait/Biography for a profile of Jane Fonda. The producer is Rich Bonin. Stahl also received an award for Outstanding Investigative Program for her report, "Plan B," on a former FDA official who criticized the agency for failing to approve over-the-counter sales of the emergency contraceptive Plan B. The producer is Karen Sughrue. 60 MINUTES Correspondent Morley Safer won an award for Outstanding Feature/Hard News for "Submission," a report on an anti-Koran film that offended Muslims worldwide and directly caused the murder of its Dutch filmmaker. The producer is John Marks.
THE EARLY SHOW National Correspondent and THE SATURDAY EARLY SHOW Anchor Tracy Smith won an award for Outstanding Series for her Hurricane Katrina coverage. The producer is Andy Rothman.
