Cancellation Trifecta: NBC's 'Daniel,' ABC's 'Jake' and TNT's 'Wanted'
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC's "The Book of Daniel," ABC's "Jake in Progress" and TNT's "Wanted" all received pink slips this week as various sources have confirmed their respective fates.

"Daniel," which was already set to go on hiatus once NBC's Olympic coverage began, has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately. A repeat of "Law & Order" ("House Of Cards") will fill the Friday, 10:00/9:00c hour this week while "Dateline NBC" will be expanded to two hours on February 3.

The news, announced via scheduling updates this morning, means four episodes of the series will remain on the shelf. "Daniel's" most recent airing averaged a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 (according to preliminary Nielsen data), placing it well behind competitors "NUMB3RS" on CBS (3.0 rating) and "20/20" on ABC (2.7 rating). Said number was down 13.64% from the previous week (2.2 rating) and 32.14% from the 10:00/9:00c portion of its premiere (2.8 rating).

As for the sophomore comedy "Jake in Progress," Jane Espenson, a co-executive producer on the series, confirmed on her blog that "J.I.P. R.I.P." - "Hey, remember Buffy's mom? She had that brain tumor and she got really sick. But then she turned a corner and she got better, stronger, healthier every week. And then she dropped dead and it felt like the floor fell out from under your feet. That's what happened to Jake in Progress this week. Every day, it seemed more and more likely that we were going to film the entire order, to shoot all 13 episodes. We showed up for work on Thursday, expecting to actually spend a late night re-writing episode ten. Then, not so much. Jake was gone."

It's not clear exactly how many episodes of the original 13-episode order were actually shot. The announcement comes despite assurances earlier in the week that "Jake" would complete its production run.

Finally, as for the TNT drama "Wanted," a network spokesperson has confirmed to the site that the series will not be returning for a second season. The news comes on the heels of yesterday's 13-episode order for the new EMT drama "Saved" from Fox 21 and Imagine Television. No reason for the cancellation was given.

"Wanted" averaged 2.5 million viewers over the course of its 13-episode run, less than half of fellow TNT newcomer "The Closer" (5.45 million on average).
