DGA Announces Nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television for the year 2005 (January 09, 2006)

LOS ANGELES, CA: Directors Guild of America President Michael Apted today announced the DGA�s nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television for the year 2005. The winner will be announced at the 58th Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

�The work of these five directors underscores the power and impact of an art form that, for over four decades, has been a cultural touchstone connecting viewing audiences across the nation," said DGA President Michael Apted. "These five directors from very diverse backgrounds bring to life a wide range of characters while evoking the spirit and history of specific places and points in time. Each one of these films is a valuable addition to the rich history of directorial excellence found in movies for television.�

This is Sargent's eighth DGA nomination. He won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television in 2004 for Something the Lord Made and in 1973 for The Marcus Nelson Murders. In 1973 he also won the DGA Television Award for Most Outstanding TV Director. Sargent's previous nominations include: For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story in 2000; A Lesson Before Dying in 1999; Miss Evers' Boys in 1997; World War II: When Lions Roared in 1994; and Miss Rose White in 1992.
