White Cherry Entertainment Will Return as Producers for the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy(R) Awards

[via press release from ABC]

WHITE CHERRY ENTERTAINMENT WILL RETURN AS PRODUCERS FOR THE 33rd ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS

White Cherry Entertainment will produce the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, it was announced today by Brian Frons, president, ABC Daytime. The 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air live on the ABC Television Network from Hollywoods Kodak Theater, home of the Academy Awards, on FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 2006. This will mark the first time the Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast from Hollywood in the 33-year history of the Awards ceremonies.

I am delighted that White Cherry Entertainment will bring their award-winning primetime expertise, which includes the Tony Awards, to the Daytime Emmys, said Frons in making the announcement. I know their creativity, combined with the energy of a new venue, will make for an invigorating show that the devoted Daytime community deserves.

Additionally, ABC Daytimes popular talk show, The View, will host the nomination ceremony on Wednesday, February 8. The nominees in all major categories will be announced live on the air by The View co-hosts Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones Reynolds, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, along with a stellar lineup of Daytime performers.

White Cherry Entertainment was formed by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, who bring with them decades of big show experience, while still giving their shows a young and relevant edge. Kirshner and Weiss combine vast experience producing and directing shows for most of the major networks, and have produced fresh and innovative television on a big scale. Individually their wide-ranging credits include many of the world's most acclaimed television specials, stadium spectaculars and events; as a team, then, they bring enormous creativity and experience to a show, and together received the Emmy Award for Best Variety, Music or Comedy Special for their critically acclaimed production of the 2004 Tony Awards. Their combined credits also include producing and directing the 2004 Democratic National Convention (they also worked on the 2000 Democratic Convention); the Rose Parade (CBS) for three years; the 30th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards (ABC); the GQ Men of the Year Awards (NBC); and executive-producing Broadway on Broadway for four years -- an NBC-televised event in Times Square that features the casts of all the current Broadway musicals performing a live concert for over 50,000 audience members.

2005 was a busy year for Kirshner and Weiss: For the second consecutive year, they served as producers of the Tony Awards (CBS; they also worked on the Tonys in 2001-2003), as well as the Boston Pops Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular (CBS), the NFL Opening Kick-Off (on ABC, and featuring the Rolling Stones, Kanye West and Green Day) for the second consecutive year, the Vibe Awards (UPN) for the third consecutive year and the Thanksgiving Day Parade (CBS) for the fourth consecutive year. In addition they were brought in to put on the live finale of The Biggest Loser (NBC), which was a huge ratings success.

Following the tragic events of September 11, White Cherry Entertainment was proud to be called upon to produce the now famous I Love NY commercial in Times Square, featuring over 400 Broadway performers honoring New York. The widely acclaimed spot, which helped regenerate business for the Broadway community and the entire city of New York, was on the air around the country within a week of its inception.

In addition to their joint Emmy, both Kirshner and Weiss have been honored with individual Emmys -- Kirshner for producing ABCs 2002 New Years Eve programming, and Weiss for his direction of the 2002 Tony Awards.

The 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
