Morgan Spurlock Gets Exclusive Overall Development Deal With Sony Pictures Television
NEW YORK, Oct. 11 -- Morgan Spurlock, the Oscar nominated
filmmaker of "SUPER SIZE ME" and creator of this year's critically acclaimed
hit FX television documentary series "30 DAYS," has signed a one-year
exclusive overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. This agreement will
give Spurlock and his production banner, Warrior Poets, a home to develop all
future television projects both scripted and non-scripted.
"I am extremely excited to be working together with Sony Pictures
Television," said Spurlock. "I can't think of a better partner to help our
production company to grow in new directions."
Spurlock and his Warrior Poets production team will continue to build upon
his brand of important and socially relevant, yet entertaining programming.
The first project from this pact is a pilot for Comedy Central entitled
"PUBLIC NUISANCE," a highly satirical and irreverent series that will feature
Spurlock and other modern day humorists such as the Yes Men, tackling
different social issues in, as the title suggests, a very public manner.
Spurlock will also serve as executive producer and creator of the series.
The deal was brokered on behalf of Morgan Spurlock by Bob Gersh and
Jennifer Konowal of The Gersh Agency and Eric Wattenberg of N.S. Bienstock.
Spurlock was recently honored in Los Angeles by the Muslim Public Affairs
Committee with the 2005 Voice of Courage & Conscience Media Award for his
television documentary series "30 DAYS" and the episode "Muslim and America."
FX Network's VP of Alternative Programming and Current Series, Eric Schrier,
as well as the show's Co-Executive Producer, Jonathan Chinn, were also honored
at the event. In December, Spurlock will also be recognized by the Sargent
Shriver National Center on Poverty Law with the 2005 Sargent Shriver Award for
Equal Justice for the series' "Minimum Wage" episode. Currently, he is
executive producing a new documentary feature film entitled "Class Act," which
focuses on the elimination of arts education in public schools.
Warrior Poets is Spurlock's New York based production company whose
mission is to create, produce and distribute thought provoking and
entertaining media through film, television, theater and literary works, both
fiction and non-fiction.
