"The Shield" Sold to the WB100+ Station Group

CULVER CITY, CA - Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has sold "The Shield" in syndication to The WB 100+ Station Group, it was announced today by John Weiser, president, distribution, SPT and Lynn Stepanian, senior vice president programming & distribution, The WB 100+ Station Group.

"We are very happy to be in partnership with the WB 100+ Station Group," said Weiser. "The success of 'The Shield,' proves that high-quality cable series are perfect for syndication."

"It's always a pleasure working with Sony and 'The Shield' is such a quality show. It's a dynamic addition to our line-up and will expand our male audience," said Stepanian. "The Shield" will air on weekends on The WB 100+ stations starting in fall 2006. SPT previously announced the sale of "The Shield" episodes to cable channel SpikeTV (where it will air Monday - Friday) and to the Tribune Station Group, which will air the show on all of its 26 stations, including WPIX (New York), KTLA (Los Angeles) and WGN (Chicago).

"The Shield" recently received Emmy nominations for two of its actors: Glenn Close in the Best Actress in a Drama series category and CCH Pounder in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama category. The series made history by becoming the first ad-supported cable series to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Series in 2003. Series star Michael.Chiklis has been honored with a Golden Globe Award in 2003, an Emmy Award in 2002 and the Television Critics Association Award for Best Actor in a Drama series, all basic cable firsts.

Creator Shawn Ryan serves as executive producer of "The Shield," along with executive producers Scott Brazil, Glen Mazzara and Charles H. Eglee. Scott Rosenbaum and Kurt Sutter are co-executive producers. "The Shield" is produced by Fox Television Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television.
