Let The Mobile-Home Mayhem Begin! New MTV Series 'TRAILER FABULOUS' To Premiere On August 3
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 14 -- MTV: Music Television today
announced that TRAILER FABULOUS, a new show that puts the "fab" in
pre-fabricated homes, will premiere on Wednesday, August 3, at 10 p.m. The
ten-episode series, with its unique feel and look, turns the typical home
makeover show on its ear as a fresh, new parody of the concept.
Hosted by rap artist Brooks Buford, TRAILER FABULOUS will roll into a
different trailer park each week to give one lucky young person a style
makeover -- of not only his mobile home, but also his look. Buford will lead
the design team, including famed designer Johnny Hardesty and tough-guy
landscaper Gino Panaro, to transform the trailer into the crib dreams are made
of, while stylist Erika Martin revamps our kid's wardrobe and personal style -
- and "re-fashions" the kid's family as well. The series is filled with
tongue-in-cheek nods to the standard cliches of the home makeover genre;
viewers will see the team's hilarious take on elements including the "looming
deadline," spats between designers and builders, and "not so subtle" product
placements throughout the series. With an ironic tone, the show lightly pokes
fun at some of the other makeover series, while at the same time, paying
homage to the highly successful format.
In the first episode, the TRAILER FABULOUS team drives their Air Stream
into Moosic, Pennsylvania, where they discover not only a trailer in need of
some TLC -- but a trailer full of birds! Alex, 22, shares a single-wide with
his dad Steve -- and their trailer is a loud, chirping mess. His dad's unruly
birds fly freely in the house, leaving their "mark" everywhere, gnawing
cabinets, and giving Alex no quiet space to call his own. To remedy the
situation, the Trailer Fabulous team drops the birds at an unlucky friend's
house, ships father and son off to the spa, and works tirelessly to give both
the birds, dad, and Alex, rooms to call their own.
"This series will give our audience a whole new way to experience the
makeover show genre," commented Brian Graden, President, Entertainment MTV
Music Group and President, Logo. "We're confident that our viewers will really
connect with seeing real kids, in their real homes, undergo these amazing
transformations, in a hilarious and sometimes touching way."
"The idea here was to take the home makeover show format and turn it
inside out, to poke fun at the conventions of the genre and tell our stories
in and unique way. The visual approach is more cinematic, and the crew we've
assembled to overhaul these homes is amazing, from our irreverent host Brooks
Buford to our sassy stylist Erika," added Tony DiSanto, Senior Vice President
of Production for MTV. "It's a blast to watch, and the transformation of the
family and home is always amazing."
The show will be supplemented by "All Things Trailer Fabulous," a weekly
companion piece featuring highlights from the series, as well as exclusive,
never-before-seen content. "All Things Trailer Fabulous" will run on MTV's
broadband video platform MTV OVERDRIVE. In addition, MTV.com will feature cast
bios, and exclusive interviews with and photos of the cast.
Will the designers beat the clock and turn the "before" into the "after"
before time runs out? Will the folks let their home get "blinged out,"
complete with unbelievable interiors, landscaping, and maybe even a few
surprises for the whole trailer park? And will the designers agree on what
look is best for their makeover project -- or come to blows trying?
Brooks Buford was half of the Southern rap duo Rehab, whose 2000 debut
spawned a Top 20 single, "It Don't Matter." Buford then signed a solo deal
with Arista. His first album, "Straight Outta Rehab," was released in 2003,
and Brooks is currently at work on his next solo project. Designer Johnny
Hardesty has provided set and production design for several feature films; his
work has also appeared in Vogue, Jane, and the Neiman Marcus catalog, as well
as at events including the Playboy 50th Anniversary party and the Victoria's
Secret Fashion Show After-Party. Born in Brooklyn and the owner of
landscape/construction company "Gino's Crew," Gino Panaro has been an expert
landscape contractor for over 20 years. His acclaimed work is on view at
properties throughout the New York and New Jersey area, including million-
dollar private estates as well as the New York Aquarium. Erika Martin is a hot
up-and-coming stylist who counts Fat Joe, the RZA, and Michelle Rodriguez
among past clients. She has served as a fashion correspondent for Event Links
and as a designer for TRACE and COMPLEX magazines.
A lighthearted, entertaining twist on the makeover genre, TRAILER FABULOUS
will turn drab into fab with a lot of heart and even more attitude. With our
dedicated crew at the helm and the design possibilities endless, there is
definitely no place like home.
TRAILER FABULOUS was created by Bob Kusbit and co-created by Angela Day;
Kusbit and Day also serve as executive producers. Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley
developed the series and also serve as executive producers. George Plamondon
is co-executive producer.
