CMT Chronicles Real Life Heroes in New Series 'AMERICAN SOLDIER' Premiering in November

Series Takes Viewers Inside The Lives of Army National Guard Unit Deployed to Iraq

Production Set to Wrap After Nine Week Shoot in Iraq

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 14 -- In the new six-episode series, AMERICAN SOLDIER, premiering November 2005, CMT takes viewers into the lives of eight guardsmen from Georgia who are preparing, deploying, and finally fighting through the triumph and torment of war-torn Iraq. Every day, brave young men and women are called serve in a war unlike any other in our country's history. Many of our soldiers are members of the Army National Guard, whose deployment to Iraq finds them leaving behind their families, their friends, and their livelihoods in defense of our freedoms.

Making the ultimate sacrifice of God and Country, AMERICAN SOLDIER is a real-life "Band Of Brothers," a courageous and patriotic look at a tightly knit group of American heroes as they take to the ground in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldiers hail from the sun-baked streets of rural Dublin, Georgia, a small town where family and duty are still first. They belong to the Georgia Army National Guard's 48th Infantry Brigade, the largest deployment of Georgia Guard soldiers since World War II. None ever thought they would be going to war; all now accept their duty to do so. From 40-year-old Staff Sergeant Steve Willis to 21-year-old Specialist Matthew Clements, the featured squad of eight men share the hope that everyone makes it back alive.

Called to active duty in December 2004, the soldiers in AMERICAN SOLDIER departed for Iraq in May and may not be returning home until July 2006. From the moment they walk off the transport plane into the stifling heat of the Mid-East desert, AMERICAN SOLDIER is there as unknown sights and sounds confront the soldiers. CMT cameras follow these brave service men as they report to Camp Stryker, near Baghdad, and undertake their perilous mission in the chaotic streets nearby. For two months CMT cameras chronicle the soldier's journey in the war-torn country, as they dream of home, write letters and send videos to their loved ones, eager for any word. AMERICAN SOLDIER provides an intimate look at those who are asked to make the ultimate sacrifice.

AMERICAN SOLDIER is executive produced by George Moll of County Line Productions. Moll created and produced the hit VH1 series "Behind the Music" and has also developed and produced original programming for CMT, TV Land and BBC. Paul Villadolid is the executive in charge of production for CMT.
