"The Showbiz Show With David Spade" COMEDY CENTRAL And David Spade's New Topical Entertainment Series Set To Satire The Glitz And Glamour Of Tinseltown
Weekly Series Will Be Hosted By Spade And Premiere In September
NEW YORK, June 20, 2005 -- David Spade will be bringing the same insiders' knowledge and cutting commentary that he first popularized on "Saturday Night Live" and has continued to use for over a decade to entertain both TV and movie audiences, to "The Showbiz Show with David Spade" a new, weekly series satirizing the entertainment industry and those that cover it, it was announced today by Lauren Corrao, executive vice president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The network plans to launch the series in September.
Hosted by Spade and produced with his long-time creative partner and Emmy Award-winning writer Hugh Fink, "The Showbiz Show with David Spade" is a half-hour topical comedy series about Hollywood, celebrity and the entertainment industry and is COMEDY CENTRAL's satirical answer to such celebritainment-driven series as "Entertainment Tonight" and "Access Hollywood." The new show will have fun with all of Hollywood's self-importance, hypocrisy and mediocrity by using actual footage, clips and on-location field pieces, along with celebrity guests and comic personalities who appear as critics and correspondents.
"We've been searching a long time for the right way to provide the COMEDY CENTRAL take on the entertainment industry and feel that we've finally put together a group of people who are perfect for the job," said Corrao. "David and Hugh have no fear, which for this series is a very good trait to possess, and are masters at using humor to point out hypocrisy. I just pray they actually care who signs their checks when planning each week's show."
"This is a show that has been missing from TV and is one that I have always wanted to watch," said David Spade "There are too many fawning entertainment shows out there and not one of them is making fun of it all. COMEDY CENTRAL is the perfect home for this type of thing because they stay out of your way and let you get your jokes out to people without being watered down."
The series was created by writer and comedian Hugh Fink. Spade, Fink, Pariah's Gavin Polone and the Brillstein-Grey Company will executive produce. Gary Mann will serve as executive in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
COMEDY CENTRAL, the only all-comedy network, currently is seen in more than 87 million homes nationwide. COMEDY CENTRAL is owned by Comedy Partners, a wholly-owned division of MTV Networks.
