GSN Renews and Expands Its 'WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE' Inventory and Acquires 'SUPER MILLIONAIRE' Series
'SUPER MILLIONAIRE' Joins GSN's Prime Time Schedule Sunday, May 1
SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 18 -- Based on the successful
ratings of WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, GSN, the network for games, is
renewing its deal with Buena Vista Television to be the home of the Regis
Philbin-hosted episodes of the series and is licensing over 100 more episodes.
Additionally, the network is acquiring the popular sweeps-stunted series SUPER
MILLIONAIRE where the stakes are upped to $10 million. SUPER MILLIONAIRE,
hosted by Philbin, will premiere on the network Sunday, May 1 in its regular
weekly time period at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The announcements were made today by Ian
Valentine, Senior Vice President of Programming at GSN.
"When the story of television in this decade is written, the phenomena of
'WHO WANTS TO BE MILLIONAIRE' and Regis Philbin will be credited as the
catalyst for drastic change. That's why night after night a tremendous amount
of viewers tune in to watch WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE on GSN," said
Valentine. "We want to reward this loyal following with even more episodes of
the spectacularly successful program. Also, adding SUPER MILLIONAIRE is just
another way for us to reward our loyal viewers."
Since joining the network in October 2003, WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE
has been GSN's prime time anchor delivering solid ratings in the network's
target advertising demographic of Adults 25-54. The format of the Emmy Award-
winning series awards contestants answering a series of questions with an
ever-increasing jackpot up to $1 million. WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE will
continue to air weeknights and Saturdays at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
As with the original version, SUPER MILLIONAIRE features contestants
answering multiple choice questions for cash. In this super-sized edition,
the dollar value for the first answer begins at $1,000 and escalates to the
final question worth $10,000,000. SUPER MILLIONAIRE will air on GSN on
Sundays at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE and SUPER MILLIONAIRE are produced by the
Emmy Award-winning production team from Valleycrest Productions Ltd. Michael
Davies, Leigh Hampton and Paul Smith are the executive producers.
