Stroker & Hoop Booked for September Debut
New Williams St. Series Created by Casper Kelly and Jeff Olsen
Stroker & Hoop, a new 30-minute animated comedy series created and written by Casper Kelly and Jeff Olsen, will join Adult Swim on Sunday, Sept. 4. Twelve episodes are currently in production at Williams St. in Atlanta. John Stroker is a private investigator who likes to live fast and break all the rules. But business is kind of slow, so Stroker will take whatever he can get, even if it means living slow and following the rules. Still, hes the picture of macho toughness with a tough-guy attitude and rather imposing mustache. His partner, Hoop is a self-proclaimed master of disguise, though he comes across more like a bad high school counselor. Rounding out the team is C.A.R.R., their disobedient and cowardly talking hatchback.
Kelly and Olsen come to Williams St. from Cartoon Network On-Air Promotions, where they both served as writer/producers and as creative consultants on Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. Prior to joining Cartoon Network, Kelly was a production assistant for Roger Corman, king of the B-movies, and wrote scripts for Nickelodeon and Disney while writing his own comic strip, Fried Society. Olsen joined Cartoon Network after a stint creating animated advertisements for Old Navy. This is the first series for each.
The voice cast includes Jon Glaser, a writer and performer on Late Night with Conan OBrien, as burly private detective Stroker. Speed Levitch, best known as the subject of the documentary The Cruise, appears as Hoop. C.A.R.R.s voice is provided by Paul Christie, a longtime voice actor well-known as the voice of Louie the Lizard in a series of popular beer commercials. The series will be directed by David Wachtenheim and Robert Marianetti, best known for their work on TV Funhouse. Animation is being produced at Turner Studios in Atlanta. Six episodes will air beginning in September. Another six episodes are scheduled to being in November.
