Ashton Kutcher Hosts March 19 with Music Sensation Gwen Stefani
New York, NY - March 4, 2005 - NBC's "Saturday Night Live" will feature hot hosts and cool music in March.
On March 12, SNL alum David Spade returns to his old stomping grounds to host for the second time. A cast member and writer for five seasons, Spade made his mark with his snarky receptionist ("and you are...") and flight attendant ("buh-bye") characters as well as his signature "Hollywood Minute" feature on "Weekend Update." Last year, Spade joined the cast of the popular comedy series "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" and was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as "Finch" on the long-running hit NBC sitcom "Just Shoot Me."
On film, Spade starred opposite SNL cast mate Chris Farley in the hits "Tommy Boy" and "Black Sheep." Other starring roles include the title characters in "Joe Dirt" and "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star" (which debuted at #1 at the box office in its opening weekend). Spade most recently leant his distinctive voice and attitude to a horsefly in the family comedy "Racing Stripes" with Steve Harvey, Whoopi Goldberg and Dustin Hoffman.
Spade will be joined by musical guest Jack Johnson, making his solo SNL debut. Johnson appeared last season as part of a singular collaboration with reggae legends Toots and the Maytals on the show. Johnson, a filmmaker, surfer and popular singer-songwriter will perform tracks from his just-released third record "In Between Dreams." Raised on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Johnson has been a surfer all his life, whose music came to the attention of Ben Harper who brought him on a 2001 tour, and helped get his first record "Brushfire Fairytales" made. The record went platinum and its follow-up "On and On" with his signature mellow sounds sold a million units. "In Between Dreams is on track to repeat that success with its "genre-bending charm and sweetness" according to The All-Music Guide.
The following week, on March 19, star of "That 70's Show" which ends its seven-year run this season, Ashton Kutcher returns to SNL for his second hosting stint. Kutcher has made a seamless transition from television to film and will next be seen opposite Bernie Mac in "Guess Who" a loose interpretation of the classic "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner," which is produced by Kutcher's production company. He also produced and starred in the MTV smash series "Punk'd." He will also soon star opposite Amanda Peet in the romantic comedy "A Lot Like Love." Other film credits include the hits "The Butterfly Effect," "Just Married," "Cheaper By The Dozen" opposite Steve Martin and the cult hit "Dude, Where's My Car?"
Kutcher is joined by musical guest Gwen Stefani. Stefani has appeared on the show numerous times with her band No Doubt and as a featured performer with rapper Eve. She now makes her solo debut on the show, performing tracks from her critically praised and chart climbing record "Love, Angel, Music, Baby." The album is currently residing in the Top 20 on Billboard's album chart and the second single "Rich Girl" is in the Top Ten. Stefani, dubbed a "rock goddess" by Rolling Stone and "the new Madonna" by People departs from the ska-influenced sound of her Grammy winning band to a more 80's dance driven party record that has been praised as "audacious" (NME) and "frivolously brilliant" (Uncut).
