My Gym Partner is a Monkey to Swing onto Cartoon Network in 2006
Survival of the Fittest Rules in Cartoon Network Original Series
In Cartoon Networks new animated series My Gym Partner is a Monkey, going to school almost literally becomes a trip to the jungle. The half-hour series will premiere early next year.
Because of an administrative mix-up (a typo changing Lyon to Lion), 12-year-old Adam Lyon is accidentally enrolled in the all-animal Charles Darwin Middle School, where the animal inhabitants of the local zoo and aquarium send their kids, making him the only human student.
Like the rainforest, Charles Darwin Middle School accommodates animals of all types living harmoniously in their surroundings. Birds fly freely around the school. Monkeys and chimps traverse the hallways via vines or swing from tires between classes. Aquatic creatures travel underwater hallways which run the length of the school.
With signs that warn Do Not Eat the Other Students, Adam has his hands full just making it through the day alive. Always the last to be picked in gym class - his speed is no match for that of a cheetah - Adam must try his best to fit in amid classmates, including gorillas, giraffes, snakes, birds, bats and fish. Every class is a struggle for the lone human, especially when the school bully, a bull shark named Tyson, waits for Adam everyday in the toilet. Fortunately, Adam meets Jake Spider Monkey and the two become fast friends. But Adam quickly discovers that having a monkey as a best buddy is as crazy as it is fun.
My Gym Partner is a Monkey is created and written by Tim Cahill and Julie McNally Cahill. Veteran voice actors will bring the characters to life, including Tom Kenney (SponegeBob SquarePants) as Jake Spider Monkey, Nikka Futterman as Adam Lyon, and Grey DeLisle (Mandy in The Grim Adentures of Billy & Mandy) as Igrid Giraffe and Lupe Toucan.
My Gym Partner is a Monkey is an original production of Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, Calif. Thirteen episodes are currently in production. Specific programming information will be announced at a later date.
