CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is hoping animal mating habits, a man who puts a live snake in his mouth then pulls it back through his nose, and a monkey competing against a man in a climbing contest will bring a pulse to its sagging Friday schedule as the network outlined a host of new reality specials for the month of February. The specials will take the place of "Boston Public" on Friday nights beginning February 6.
Here's a breakdown of what to expect in the coming weeks:
-- "That's Just Wrong" (Friday, February 6 at 9:00/8:00c) - LMNO Productions offers up this one-hour variety show "that features original stunts, contests and video clips of amazing and sometimes unbelievable behavior," according to a network press release. Among the featured stunts are a man who puts a live snake in his mouth then pulls it back through his nose, alive and putting various objects in a jet engine and seeing what happens when the engine starts up. Twins Elaine and Diane Klimaszewski host the special.
-- "National Geographic: When Animals Attract" (Friday, February 13 at 9:00/8:00c) - The mating habits of the wild kingdom will be the focus of this special, originally developed for the FOX-owned National Geographic Channel.
-- "Man vs. Beast 2" (Friday, February 20 at 9:00/8:00c) - A sequel to last year's special from LMNO Productions in which animals compete against humans in bizarre contests. Among the new events: a monkey vs. man climbing contest and a long-jumper vs. a leopard.
-- "Test the Nation 2" (Friday, March 5 at 8:00/7:00c) - Leeza Gibbons and Mark L. Walberg are back to host the second installment of FOX's national I.Q. test. The two-hour special will once again "provide a new opportunity for a studio audience, celebrity panelists and home viewers to submit their scores and contribute to a tabulated statistical analysis of the nation's I.Q. Results will be used to calculate factors such as which city or gender is the more intelligent," according to a network press release.
Following "Test the Nation 2," the new dramedy "Wonderfalls" will take over the Friday, 9:00/8:00c hour for at least seven weeks. The news means "Boston Public" will apparently be off of FOX's schedule until at least April 30, the first Friday of the May sweeps period. Reality clip shows "Totally Outrageous Behavior" and "World's Craziest Videos" however will remain on Fridays at 8:00/7:00c and 8:30/7:30c respectively for the time being.
