CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX will debut the third season of its "American Idol" franchise on Tuesday, January 20, the network announced today.
Like last season, "Idol" will air one-hour competition episodes on Tuesdays at 8:00/7:00c and half-hour results shows on Wednesdays at 8:30/7:30c. For its debut week however the series will kick off with a two-hour installment on January 20 and a special one-hour episode on Wednesday, January 21 at 8:00/7:00c.
It's not clear how the move will affect the status of FOX's freshman comedy "A Minute With Stan Hooper," the network's current Wednesday, 8:30/7:30c time slot holder.
"American Idol," a co-production of 19 Television and FremantleMedia," is executive produced by Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick and Cecile Frot-Coutaz.
