CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- While most returning series start off with full season orders, that won't be the case for CBS' "Hack." Executive producer Bob Singer confirmed the news in an interview in today's Philadelphia Inquirer. The Eye has ordered only 13 episodes of the drama, which moves to Saturdays at 9:00/8:00c this fall, with production set to begin July 16. Obviously should the series perform well, the David Morse-led drama has an option for nine additional episodes.
Singer also announced that George Dzundza, who plays Father Tom "Grizz" Grzelak, is being dropped as a regular character. "We love George and he did a great job," he told the Inquirer. "It was a tough decision. We're looking to bring in someone who can serve the spiritual part of the show, but a brighter part." Singer also mentioned he hasn't closed the door to Dzundza appearing in a few episodes this season.
In the actor's place producers will introduce two new characters (both of which have yet to be cast): a former nun turned probation officer and a young con man Morse takes under his wing, the former of which could be a love interest.
Singer made it clear however the changes aren't going to shake up the core essence of the show: "Olshansky [Morse] is what he is. He's not going to become Ray Romano."
