'Stargate,' 'Medicine' Post Strong Premieres
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Sci Fi and Lifetime were happy channels this weekend as the season premieres of two of their signature series posted strong numbers.

The two-hour premiere of Sci Fi's "Stargate SG-1" scored a stellar 1.9 rating in households, delivering 2.43 million viewers. That makes the seventh season bow the most watched episode of the series to date, not to mention the most watched season premiere in the history of the channel and the most watched June telecast ever for Sci Fi. More importantly, "Stargate" came in at number one for the day in both persons 18-49 (1.35) and persons 25-54 (1.55) among all the basic-cable networks.

Over on Lifetime, the fourth season bow of "Strong Medicine" netted a solid 2.3 rating and 3.8 share in households, making it the channel's highest rated show of the week. The series also built from lead-in "The Division" by 5% (2.2 rating/3.7 share).

Meanwhile in other cable ratings news:

-- Discovery Channel's "Walking with Cavemen" scored a stellar 3.7 rating on Sunday night, helping the channel lift its primetime average to 1.3 household rating with 1.6 million viewers.

-- Disney Channel's "The Even Stevens Movie" posted a 3.5 household rating on June 13. Overall the channel averaged a 2.2 household rating in primetime with 2.6 million viewers last week.

-- Sunday's network premiere of "Meet the Parents" did astonishingly well for USA as the film scored a strong 3.7 rating in households with a late-night replay also contributing a solid 2.4 rating.

-- Finally, the bow of FX's "The Orlando Jones Show" saw a modest 0.6 household rating on Monday night with a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49. While far from stellar, the talk show nevertheless topped FX's previous attempt at late-night programming - "The Test" - which averaged a 0.4 household rating in April 2001.
