Warner BroS. to Bring 'Er' to DVD in August

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Warner Bros. Home Video announced yesterday it will release its long in the works DVD set "ER: The Complete First Season" on August 26. Billed as "one of the most comprehensive and extensive television DVDs ever released," the set will include all 26 first season episodes of the popular drama series in their original 4:3 full screen aspect ratio and Dolby 2.0 sound.

Extras on the set, which carries an MSRP of $59.95, include (from Warner Bros.' press release):

-- Personal notes from series creator Michael Crichton.

-- Audio commentary on the Pilot from Michael Crichton and John Wells.

-- Audio commentary on the Pilot from Director Rod Holcomb and key production crew.

-- Audio Commentaries on "Love's Labor Lost" and "Sleepless in Chicago" by the Directors and production crew.

-- Documentary on the pilot featuring interviews with Steven Spielberg and executive producers Michael Crichton and John Wells.

-- Documentary on the first season complete with interviews with the principal cast members.

-- The First Year Intern Handbook: Interactive featurette including character profiles, patient histories, and medical terminology.

-- Featurette on the medical consultants used in the series.

-- Featurette on the series' post production.

-- Additional Scenes.

-- Outtakes.

-- Hidden Features.

In other DVD news, Eclectic DVD is set to release the short-lived MTV animated series "The Undergrads" on the format on July 1. The two-disc set features all 13 episodes of the series in their original 4:3 full screen aspect ratio and Dolby 2.0 sound. Extras include audio commentaries by series creator Pete Williams, additional interviews, footage from vocal recording sessions, character bios and other DVD-ROM goodies. The set carries an MSRP of $29.95.

And lastly, Universal Studios Home Video is set to release two "Law & Order" collections on the format on August 26. Details are still fuzzy for each two-disc set, "Organized and Unsolved" and "Badge of Dishonor," outside of both will be presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 2.0 sound with an MSRP of $29.95. Specific content is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
