The Futon's Upfront Notes: Cbs
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) - As a supplement to the press releases issued by the networks, here's an addendum to all the fanfare that went on at each upfront presentation:

-- Undoubtedly the biggest surprise on CBS' fall schedule came with the announcement that "J.A.G." would move to Friday nights to make room for its spin-off, now officially titled "Navy C.I.S." Early indicators had the two series airing back to back on Tuesday nights. The time slot isn't exactly new territory for "J.A.G." as the series aired Fridays at 9:00/8:00c for its first season on CBS. In another less surprising move, "48 Hours Investigates" will shift to Saturdays at 8:00/7:00c.

-- In addition to "Navy C.I.S.," a few other title changes were announced: "Street Boss" is now "The Handler" and "The Unsolved" is now "Cold Case" (singular). Interestingly enough, the original title for "The Unsolved" was "Cold Cases" (plural).

-- As expected both "King of Queens" and "Hack" will switch nights with the former going to Wednesdays at 9:00/8:00c and the latter to Saturdays at 9:00/8:00c. The "Queens" move pushes "Yes, Dear" into the lead-off position, a place it struggled last season when "Queens" was shelved temporarily in favor of newcomer "Baby Bob." "Still Standing" also has the unproven task of bridging "Yes, Dear" and "Raymond." On the flip side, "The Guardian" was originally pegged as moving to Saturdays but will instead stay put on Tuesday night.

-- On the new drama front, early indicators had "Joan of Arcadia" taking the Sunday, 8:00/7:00c slot which ended up going to "Cold Case." "Joan" will instead kick off Friday nights at 8:00/7:00c. "The Handler" was eyed at getting the Wednesday, 10:00/9:00c slot but would up on Fridays as well. And finally, "Brotherhood of Poland, N.H.," which was said to land on Fridays will now take the Wednesday, 10:00/9:00c following CBS' new one-hour comedy block.

-- Formally getting the axe/ending this season were: "The Agency," "Bram & Alice," "My Big Fat Greek Life," "Presidio Med," "Queens Supreme," "Robbery Homicide Division" and "Touched by an Angel." "Becker" and "Star Search" however, while not on the network's fall schedule, are being considered for midseason orders.
