Pilot Update: April 25
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from various wire reports each morning:

DREAM JOB (ESPN, New!) - The sports channel is set to get into the talent search game as ESPN is developing "Dream Job," a new reality series that will document an "American Idol"-esque competition to find a new "SportsCenter" anchor. The winner will then get a one-year contract to host one of ESPN's many "SportsCenter" editions. No specifics beyond that were announced.

THE GAME (Showtime) - More details about Spike Lee and Alex Tse's drama pilot for the pay channel have emerged. The series "takes a gritty look at the dangerous world and life choices of a diverse group of characters in and around the unique gang culture of San Francisco," according to a press release from the network. "Nick is a 19 year-old white teen who wants desperately to work in corporate America, but resorts to arranging drug deals and credit card fraud to make ends meet. He and his parents are gentrified out of their once low-income area and forced to move into the city's last slum, Hunters Point. There, he and his family are victimized by members of the "V-Dub" gang, especially Leon, the gang's second in command. Leon is a hot head who looks for trouble and enjoys confrontations with their rival gang, the Point Mob. Leon's behavior irks his fellow gang member K-Luv, who is more interested in money than violence. K-Luv befriends Nick who helps him burn CDs for bootlegging purposes after seeing how profitable this has become in Chinatown."

"In Chinatown, Lincoln is a Chinese teen who leads a crew called the Grant Street Boys. They make their living collecting "protection" money for and doing the bidding of Mr. Tsing, the leader of a Chinese crime organization. Lincoln is skimming money from the funds he is extorting from local merchants and he will do anything, including murder, to keep this a secret. But that's not all he's holding back from Mr. Tsing -- he is secretly having an affair with his precious daughter Angela." All roles have yet to be cast in the project, which will be directed by Lee and executive produced by Lee and Sam Kitt through his production company 40 Acres and a Mule. Production is set for a June start date.
