1923 (Paramount+) - Jennifer Carpenter will recur on the show's sophomore run as Mamie Fossett, "a highly capable U.S. Deputy Marshall who serves warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time." (Deadline.com, 6/17)
AMERICAN IDOL (ABC) - Wylleen May, the show's longtime executive in charge of production, is departing the series. "It is hard to express the gratitude I have to the team at Fremantle and American Idol, the place I knew as home for the last 22 years. It may sound cliche, but it was my absolute honor to work day in and day out with people I consider to be some of the most talented, dedicated, and devoted in the business. I will miss you terribly," she said in a statement to the publication. "That being said, I am sad to be leaving. I will forever cherish my time with Idol, and hope I am remembered for my experience, passion, and dedication to my role. All we want for ourselves is to know that our work had a lasting impact. I am excited for my next journey, and what that will bring. Sometimes you need a little push forward, and I am grateful for all of it - beginning, middle, and end." (Deadline.com, 6/19)
BEEF (Netflix) - Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan are in negotiations to star in the show's second season alongside Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny. Said duo will take over the roles targeted for the previously reported Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. (Deadline.com, 6/21)
CHAD POWERS (Hulu) - Tony Yacenda has been tapped to direct and executive produce the debut installment of the Glen Powell-led comedy series. (Deadline.com, 6/18)
CHICAGO FIRE (NBC) - Jocelyn Hudon's Lyla Novak, "a new paramedic at Firehouse 51 who at first loves freelancing but reluctantly agrees to join Violet (Hanako Greensmith) as an official part of the team," will return as a regular for the show's 13th season. (Deadline.com, 6/20)
DEVIL IN DISGUISE: JOHN WAYNE GACY (Peacock) - Michael Chernus has scored the title role on the limited series: From 1972-1978, thirty-three young men were kidnapped, murdered and buried in a crawl space beneath their killer's house. And no one was the wiser. Not for all those years. Why? He was charming and funny. Had a good, All-American job. Was a community leader. He even volunteered to entertain sick kids... while dressed as a clown. (Deadline.com, 6/20)
DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN (Showtime) - Patrick Dempsey has signed onto the prequel series as Aaron Spencer, "the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide department who has a decades-long relationship with Harry Morgan (Christian Slater)." (Deadline.com, 6/20)
EL GATO (Amazon) - Eric Lange and Alfonso Dosal are the latest additions to the series. Lange has been cast as Simon Casimir aka The Nazarite, "an ascetic, monk-like, warrior. Simon was long burdened with the sins he committed as the country's top assassin - until he was offered a shot at redemption. Focused on atoning for his past, Simon called himself "The Nazarite" (like Samson, in the Bible). The Nazarite has strength far beyond that of an ordinary man. He believes this power is God-given, a reward for his strict vows of self-denial, but the truth is more complicated. He is a terrifying force of nature, but he is also damaged and sympathetic - a tragic hero. Somewhere between Doc Holliday, Don Quixote and the Jackal. This season will test his faith." And Dosal is Alejandro Guerrero, "interim CEO of a billion-dollar family-owned agriculture business. Alejandro is shrewd and Oxford-educated. He leads a lavish lifestyle but takes little pleasure in it. Though he is technically our hero's nephew, the pair are more like estranged brothers and rivals. The strain of a troubled marriage and corporate intrigue have exacerbated Alejandro's insecurities. But in the series, we will see his ambition and the jealousy he bears for his "uncle", push him past his fears and lead him down... a treacherous path." (Deadline.com, 6/20)
EVERYBODY STILL HATES CHRIS (Comedy Central) - Chris Rock, Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold will reprise their roles of adult Chris, Julius and Rochelle on the animated series revival from CBS Studios, Chris Rock Enterprises and 3 Arts Entertainment. Also cast in the series, due later this year (and subsequently on Paramount+), are Tim Johnson Jr. as young Chris; Ozioma Akagha as Tonya; Terrence Little Gardenhigh as Drew; and Gunnar Sizemore as Greg. Said roles were originated by Tyler James Williams, Imani Hakim, Tequan Richmond and Vincent Martella, respectively. Rock, Sanjay Shah, Ali LeRoi, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina are the executive producers. (Variety.com, 6/18)
FBI: INTERNATIONAL (CBS) - Jesse Lee Soffer has joined the cast of the show's fourth season in a yet-to-be-revealed role. (Deadline.com, 6/20)
FOR ALL MANKIND/OUTLANDER (Apple TV+/Starz) - Executive producer Ronald D. Moore has signed a multi-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, bringing his and longtime collaborators Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis's Tall Ship Productions banner back to the studio after four years. (Deadline.com, 6/17)
GORDITA CHRONICLES, THE (Max) - Executive producer Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz has signed a new two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. (Deadline.com, 6/21)
HIGH POTENTIAL (ABC) - Todd Harthan has joined the newcomer as executive producer and showrunner, succeeding Rob Thomas. (Deadline.com, 6/21)
HOUSE OF DAVID (Amazon) - Sam Otto and Alexander Uloom have been cast in the biblical drama. Otto is set as Eshbaal, "Son of Saul and Ahinoam, brother of Mychal, Jonathan and Mirab. He is a good-looking pretty boy who uses his looks and status to much aplomb, taking nothing seriously that he cannot drink or flirt with. However, if he is confronted or struck by a real threat, he instantly folds & expects his mother to clean up the mess, proving to be a coward beneath it all." And Uloom will play "an undisclosed but key role." (Deadline.com, 6/21)
HUNTING PARTY, THE (NBC) - Thor Freudenthal has been tapped to helm the pilot to the upcoming drama and executive produce. (Deadline.com, 6/20)
MAN ON FIRE (Netflix) - Billie Boullet will star opposite Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the upcoming drama as Poe Rayburn, "a role loosely based on the young character in the novel. Poe has the lanky lines of someone growing at a rapid and confusing pace and the attitude that comes with it. She is unhappy about moving to Brazil because of her parent's decision, spending her days with her wealthy international classmates until a tragic incident changes her perspective on family and life. As the only witness to a terrifying event, Poe quickly learns that her only ally is John Creasy." (Deadline.com, 6/20)
MID-CENTURY MODERN (Hulu, New!) - Actors Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane and Linda Lavin are set to team with writers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan; executive producer Ryan Murphy; as well as director James Burrows for a multi-camera comedy pilot at the streamer: "The series follows three best friends - gay gentlemen of a certain age - who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper. 'Mid-Century Modern' stars Nathan Lane as Bunny Schneiderman, Matt Bomer as Jerry Frank, and Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny's mother. A successful businessman with one foot in retirement, Bunny is forever in search of love, but he first has to be convinced he's worthy of it. Like her son, Sybil's strengths are her weaknesses: wise, caring, and iconoclastic - which sometimes means she's critical, smothering and amoral. Jerry left the Mormon Church and his marriage in his early 20s after his wife informed him and the rest of the congregation that he was a homosexual. Now a latter-day saint in the literal sense of the term, Jerry is pure of heart. He is also hard of body and soft of head." All six will executive produce for 20th Television. (Variety.com, 6/18)
NIGHTBEAST, THE (Amazon, New!) - Tatiana Maslany is attached to star in a pilot for Amazon MGM Studios "that follows a young mother who is unsatisfied with her seemingly perfect suburban life, so she begins an affair with the boogeyman in her son's closet - a surprisingly sexy man called the Nightbeast. But this harmless affair she thought to be a figment of her imagination begins to have unexpected consequences, as her two worlds increasingly begin to collide in this seductive, darkly comedic tale." Leah Rachel and Travis Jackson are behind the project, with director Jamie Babbit and Peter Warren, Justin Levy, Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com, 6/17)
SHERIFF COUNTRY (CBS) - Matt Lopez has been named showrunner and executive producer of the "Fire Country" spin-off series starring Morena Baccarin. (Deadline.com, 6/19)
TWISTED METAL (Peacock) - Anthony Carrigan has signed onto the show's second season as Calypso, "a character from the "Twisted Metal" video games who is described as "the mysterious, charismatic host and creator of a dangerous demolition derby tournament, who invites all assassins, vigilantes, mercenaries and joyriders to participate. To the winner, he offers the prize of making their greatest wish come true, but with Calypso there's always a twist." Also bound for the new season in unspecified roles are Richard de Klerk, Patty Guggenheim, and Tiana Okoye. (Variety.com, 6/20)
UNTAMED (Netflix) - Rosemarie DeWitt and Sam Neill have both been cast in the Eric Bana-led limited series. DeWitt will play "Turner's ex-wife Jill Bodwin, a former teacher and park counselor, who remarried a few years after their divorce. Despite the fracturing of their marriage, Jill and Turner maintain a strong bond, held together by events from their past." Neill then is set as Paul Souter "who has been the chief park ranger in Yosemite for half his life. He's a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to Turner (Bana). He's comfortable in all facets of his job, whether it's dealing with crime inside the park or with the bureaucracy around it." (Deadline.com, 6/21)
WE WERE LIARS (Amazon) - Rahul Kohli is the latest bound for the series, replacing Arsher Ali as Ed after creative changes: "Magnetic, wryly funny, and patient to a fault, Ed owns an art gallery in Brooklyn but spends every summer with his long-term partner Carrie (Mamie Gummer) and at her family's sprawling summer compound. For nearly a decade, Ed has done his best to impress Carrie's father, enduring not-so-subtle condescension, but this year, it becomes increasingly difficult for him to hold his tongue." (Deadline.com, 6/18)
YELLOWSTONE (Paramount Network) - Kevin Costner took to social media to confirm he will not return for the show's final episodes, due this fall. (@modernwest, 6/20)
