ANON PLS (HBO Max, New!) - A one-hour drama based on DeuxMoi's upcoming debut novel has received a script-to-series order from the streamer. DeuxMoi is a pseudonymous Instagram account for celebrity gossip that has 1.5 million followers. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of the Warner Bros. Television-based Berlanti Productions is behind the project. Jessica Goodman co-wrote the book, in which "when Cricket Lopez, assistant to one of the most notorious celebrity stylists, revamps her old style Instagram account and turns it into a celebrity gossip blog on a drunken whim, she never thinks it will become anything. It's just a way to blow off steam after a terrible, terrible day at work where her nightmarish boss screams at her and blames her for some 18-year-old influencer's screw-up. But when the account grows overnight and, even wilder, when she starts getting gossip from fans - juicy gossip - she has to face facts: her Instagram is now famous. She is now famous. Though no one knows that she is behind the account, its newfound success is affecting her real life. Her boss wonders why she's disappearing on the job, her friends are increasingly irritated by her dedication to the account, and she has celebrities, investors, and journalists approaching her with bright-eyed interest. Plus, there's a steamy new love interest who she meets through her online persona - except she has no idea if she can truly trust his motives. But as the account grows and becomes more and more famous, she has to wonder: is it - the fame, the insider access, the escape from real life - really worth losing everything she has?" (Deadline.com)
CROWDED ROOM, THE (Apple TV+) - Lior Raz and Jason Isaacs have both signed onto the Tom Holland-led seasonal anthology series. Raz portrays Yitzhak, "Danny's landlord, who becomes an important figure in his life." And Isaacs plays Jack Lamb, "a friend of Danny's biological father and Yitzhak's employer." (Deadline.com)
MINX (HBO Max) - Executive producer Ben Karlin has extended his first-look deal with the show's producer Lionsgate Television. (Deadline.com)
MURDER RULE, THE (FX, New!) - The cable channel is developing a small screen take on Dervla McTiernan's upcoming novel: "The book focuses on an idealistic law student, who is an outsider to her peers. Working with her elite campus' prestigious Innocence Project represents the high point of everything she's sacrificed for, but in a twisted mother/daughter story, she soon reveals that underneath her do-gooder image lies rules pounded into her by mom. The last one is, make them pay. The author's past novels include The Good Turn and The Sisters." Shane Salerno of The Story will presumably executive produce. (Deadline.com)
NEVER LET ME GO (FX, New!) - Kazuo Ishiguro's novel-turned-film is being developed as a TV series by the cable channel: "As children, Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy were students at Hailsham, an exclusive boarding school secluded in the English countryside. It was a place of mercurial cliques and mysterious rules where teachers were constantly reminding their charges of how special they were. Now, years later, Kathy is a young woman. Ruth and Tommy have re-entered her life. And for the first time she is beginning to look back at their shared past and understand just what it is that makes them special - and how that gift will shape the rest of their time together." Writer Melissa Iqbal, Allon Reich and Andrew MacDonald are the executive producers for DNA Films. (Deadline.com)
SULA (HBO, New!) - Shannon M. Houston is developing a limited series at the pay channel based on Toni Morrison's Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning novel, which "tracks the lives of two Black heroines from their close-knit childhood in a small Ohio neighborhood called The Bottom, through their sharply divergent paths of womanhood. Nel Wright has chosen to marry, raise a family and become a pillar of the Black community. Sula Peace has rejected the life Nel has embraced, escaping from The Bottom, submerging herself in city life, and coming into her own as a woman more intellectually and sexually free than anyone around her. Eventually, Sula and Nel must face the consequences of their choices, and their complicated bond. Along with a mysterious third man named Shadrack, they create an unforgettable portrait of a strange American community, and the relationships, tragedies and triumphs that define it." Stephanie Allain will also executive produce and Gabrielle Ebron co-executive produce for Homegrown Pictures and Warner Bros. Television. (Deadline.com)
TOM CLANCY'S JACK RYAN (Amazon) - The John Krasinski-led action series will reportedly sign off with its upcoming fourth season. That's in addition to the already completed third season, which has yet to roll out. It's understood however Michael Peña's Domingo "Ding" Chavez, who will be introduced in the final episode of the upcoming third season, is being eyed for a potential spin-off series. The character has appeared in 22 novels from Clancy's larger Jack Ryan Universe, including seven books from the core Jack Ryan series. No other auspices were given. Amazon Studios, Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television will presumably return to produce. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BOYS SPIN-OFF PROJECT (Amazon) - London Thor is the latest bound for the spin-off series, replacing the previously announced Reina Hardesty. Also joining the cast are Derek Luh, Asa Germann and Shelley Conn. No specifics about the aforementioned roles were given. Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway and Maddie Phillips also star.
