A YOUNG WOMAN'S MYSTERIOUS DEATH AND AN EX-BOYFRIEND WHO SAYS HE CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED - IS IT MEMORY LOSS, OR JUST A LIE?
This Week's "48 Hours" Investigates "The Blackout Murder of Livye Lewis"
Saturday, Jan. 4 at 10:00 PM, ET/PT
On Oct. 31, 2020, in the small town of Hemphill, Texas, Darci Bass received devastating news: her daughter Livye Lewis had been shot in her car on the side of a road. Nearby, investigators found Lewis' ex-boyfriend Matthew Edgar bloodied and disoriented. From a hospital bed, Edgar insisted he had no recollection of what had happened. Captured in sheriff's office bodycam footage, he appears confused, saying, "I have no clue why I'm here."
In this all-new episode, 48 HOURS and correspondent Peter Van Sant unravel the case in "The Blackout Murder of Livye Lewis," to be broadcast on Saturday, Jan. 4 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+.
Sabine County Sheriff's investigator J.P. MacDonough believed Edgar was not telling the truth and arrested him as a murder suspect. However, others who know Edgar defend him. Edgar's friend Shaun Dunn believes he was a victim, not a killer. He thinks someone "close to Matthew" pulled the trigger.
In this gripping episode, 48 HOURS delves into the details of the investigation, and how authorities pieced together the events of that night.
