NBC PRIMETIME HIGHLIGHTS:
Eight is the magic number of the Beijing Olympics, and if all goes according to plan, the men's 4x100m medley relay final will be the eighth and final gold medal race for Michael Phelps in Beijing. If so, he could have a chance at yet another piece of history. He could win his eighth gold medal of the Games, surpassing the single-Games record of seven set by Mark Spitz in 1972. By this point, Phelps should own the all-time record for career gold medals, surpassing the previous mark of nine.
Call it "A Race for the Ages": 41-year-old mother and American record-holder Dara Torres vies for the title of "Fastest Woman in the Water".
Dara Torres, Natalie Coughlin & Co. will no doubt be looking to reassert themselves in the 4x100m medley relay. The Australians not only hold the world record in the women's 4x100m medley relay, are reigning world champions, but are also looking to defend their 2004 Olympic Gold Medal in the event.
Tonight, the title of "World's Fastest Man" is at stake in the 100m final. American Tyson Gay, who ran the fastest 100m under any conditions in history at the USA Olympic Trials (a blazing 9.68), is the reigning world champion, but a pair of Jamaicans stand in his path: world record-holder Usain Bolt (a.k.a. "Lightning Bolt") and Asafa Powell, the 2007 world bronze medal champion.
NBC DAYTIME HIGHLIGHTS:
Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Team USA want redemption after a third-place finish in 2004. The "Redeem Team's" current obstacle: Pau Gasol and reigning world champion Spain in a key live matchup.
Teenage track cycling prodigy Taylor Phinney has had two clear cycling role models to emulate: his father, Davis, was the first American to win a stage of the Tour de France and his mother, Connie Carpenter-Phinney, won the first Olympic women's road race in Los Angeles in 1984. The next chapter for the Phinney family: Taylor chases a medal in the men's individual pursuit final.
NBC LATENIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:
Beach Volleyball's Olympic "Golden Girls" Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, who won gold in Athens and are three-time reigning world champions, hope to continue their gold medal defense.
USA NETWORK:
The tennis competition heats up as some of the game's top stars chase Olympic gold.
MSNBC HIGHLIGHTS:
Four years after failing to qualify for the Athens Games, the USA Baseball Team is back in the Olympics, looking to recapture its gold medal-winning form of 2000. The current challenge for Team USA: a border clash against Canada. Also, two live men's quarterfinal soccer matches with Brazil taking on Cambodia and Argentia against The Netherlands.
CNBC LATENIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:
Looking for a dose of dominance? Try live coverage of the USA Softball Team, which put on a clinic in brilliance in 2004 (outscoring opponents 51-1) and seeks its fourth straight Olympic gold in 2008. Next in line to attempt to topple the USA juggernaut: Chinese Taipei.
