Bettis: "There's going to be some burning in your chest"
NEW YORK Oct. 17, 2007 Ben Roethlisberger and Willie Parker lead the resurgent Steelers (4-1, 1st place in AFC North) into the Mile High City to take on Jay Cutler and the Broncos (2-3) on "NBC Sunday Night Football." The Steelers, winners of the Super Bowl two seasons ago, are back in top form coming off a bye week after a convincing 21-0 victory over the Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago. The Broncos started strong winning their first two games but have lost three straight and need a win to keep pace in the extremely tight AFC West. Coverage begins Sunday night at 7 p.m. ET with the "Football Night in America" studio show.
Al Michaels (play-by-play), John Madden (analyst) and Andrea Kremer (sideline reporter) will call all the action from Invesco Field at Mile High. Bob Costas (host) and Cris Collinsworth (co-host), Keith Olbermann (co-host), analysts Tiki Barber and Jerome "The Bus" Bettis, and reporter Peter King of Sports Illustrated, comprise the "Football Night in America" studio team.
JEROME BETTIS ON THE MATCHUP:
"Denver came into Pittsburgh's house last year and beat up on the Steelers (31-20). So the Steelers will be looking for revenge."
BETTIS ON THE STEELERS:
"Pittsburgh has been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL. It's mainly a testament to how well Willie Parker has run the ball and how smart Ben (Roethlisberger) has been with the football keeping the turnovers down."
BETTIS ON PLAYING IN DENVER:
"When you go and play in Denver you can't breathe. So you have to understand that there is going to be some breathing issues. There's going to be some burning in your chest that you're going to have to deal with."
STEELERS AND BRONCOS IN PRIMETIME:
This is the first "Sunday Night Football" game for either team this season. Last year Pittsburgh appeared twice on NBC, defeating the Dolphins 28-17 in the opening game of the NFL season and losing to the Chargers 23-13 in Week 5. The Broncos had three games on SNF last season defeating the Patriots 17-7 in Week 3 and losing to the Chargers 35-27 in Week 11 and to the Seahawks 23-20 in Week 13.
The Steelers are 34-22 all-time on the NFL's premier primetime network franchise (MNF 1970-2005, SNF 2006-present), while the Broncos are 24-31-1.
STEELERS VS. BRONCOS:
This is the 20th regular season matchup of these two teams with the Broncos holding a 12-6-1 edge. They have also met six times in the postseason with each team winning three times. The last time they played in Denver was in the 2005 AFC Championship game with the Steelers winning 34-17 to send them to the Super Bowl.
