NETWORK NEWS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME CATCH WILL FERRELL IN THE HILARIOUS
PERIOD COMEDY, "ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY,"
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 ON ABC
Will Ferrell ("Stranger than Fiction") and Christina Applegate ("Employee of the Month") star in the hilarious comedy, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," airing as the "ABC Sunday Movie of the Week," SEPTEMBER 16 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (Rebroadcast. OAD 2/3/07)
Ron Burgundy is a top-rated anchorman at a major network in the 70s, a time when male dominion over the business was largely uncontested. But Ron and his fraternity-like crew are about to get a wake-up call in the attractive form of Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), who joins the newsroom, imbuing it with a feminine and feminist touch. At first Ron accepts Veronica, as long as she recognizes that her place at the station is to cover "female-interest" stories, such as pet fashion shows and cooking segments. But Christina has ideas of her own and quickly grows tired of being used as eye candy; taking matters into her own hands, she not only steps on Ron's toes but does so behind the news desk, setting off a war between the two and pitting Christina's professional ambition against the unrestricted sexism that seems to run rampant at the network.
"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" stars Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, Christina Applegate as Veronica Corningstone, Paul Rudd ("The 40 Year Old Virgin") as Brian Fantana, Steve Carell ("Little Miss Sunshine," "The 40 Year Old Virgin") as Brick Tamland and Fred Willard ("For Your Consideration") as Ed Harken.
The film, released in 2004, was directed by Adam McKay. The screenplay was written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay ("Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby")
