"THE CHASE" GOES PRIMETIME SATURDAY NIGHT ON NBC
Parsons: "We called Talladega a joker in the deck, and I'm just hoping Lowe's Motor Speedway won't be another joker in the 'Chase' this weekend"
NEW YORK - October 12, 2005 - The "Chase for the Nextel Cup" goes primetime on NBC Saturday live in High Definition with NASCAR Nextel Cup Racing from Lowe's Motor Speedway presented by the Principal Financial Group. Coverage is scheduled to begin following USC vs. Notre Dame football at 7 p.m. ET with an abbreviated "Bank of America Countdown to Green" pre-race show, followed by green flag racing.
"We called Talladega a joker in the deck, and I'm just hoping Lowe's Motor Speedway won't be another joker in the 'Chase' this weekend," says Benny Parsons, NASCAR on NBC & TNT analyst. "Testing was brutal for a lot of drivers in Charlotte-- Tony Stewart wrecked two cars and so did Greg Biffle. There could be sparks flying here this weekend! That being said, I think Tony is going to run well on Saturday and so are the Roush cars; look for most of the ten cars in the 'Chase' to run well on Saturday night."
Parsons says that racing at Charlotte can be especially anxious not only for the drivers, but for their crews: "It's a home game for everyone-- the state of North Carolina has 25,000 motorsports jobs, and probably 100,000 wives, girlfriends and friends of those folks. If you're a tirechanger, your wife is going to be in the stands and when you get home, she's going to know exactly what you did and she's going to tell you so. It's a pretty big deal for everybody."
This week on "Wally's World," Lake Bell, star of NBC's new hit series "Surface," takes a spin with NASCAR on NBC & TNT analyst Wally Dallenbach.
