"THE TIME MACHINE," A SCI-FI ACTION ADVENTURE, WILL HAVE ITS NETWORK TELEVISION PREMIERE SATURDAY, AUGUST 20 ON ABC

Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Makeup, the Film Will Air in High Definition with 5.1-Channel Surround Sound and Spanish Audio

The distant future isn't so distant anymore when Alexander Hartdegen (Guy Pearce) does the impossible, in "The Time Machine," making its network television premiere as the "ABC Saturday Movie of the Week," AUGUST 20 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The film, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Makeup, will air in HDTV with 5.1-channel surround sound and Spanish audio.

"The Time Machine" is based on the classic novel written by H.G. Wells about an inventor/scientist named Alexander Hartdegen (Guy Pearce) whose belief in time travel is unwavering. A personal tragedy becomes the driving force behind his developing a machine that will allow him to travel through time. He achieves the impossible and is whirled 800,000 years ahead, only to find that human life has degenerated into survival of the fittest... man against man... hunter against hunted... Will he ever be able to return to the present, or will he be stuck in the terrifying future forever?

Starring in the film are Guy Pearce ("Rules of Engagement," "LA Confidential") as Alexander Hartdegen, David Filby ("Around the World in 80 days," "A Knight's Tale") as Mark Addy, Phyllida Law (TV miniseries "Afterlife," "Blinded") as Mrs. Watchett and Laura Kirk (TV series "Boyfriend for Christmas," "Murder without Conviction") as Flower Seller.

"The Time Machine" was directed by Simon Wells ("The Prince of Egypt," "Balto"), based on the novel by H.G. Wells. Writing credits are given to David Duncan (TV series "The New Adventures of Huck Finn," TV series "The Outer Limits") for an earlier edition of the screenplay. The film is produced by Arnold Leibovit Entertainment, Dream Works SKG, Parkes/MacDonald Production, Warner Bros., and is distributed by Dream Works LLC and Warner Bros.

"THE TIME MACHINE" IN HDTV:
The ABC Television Network's HDTV broadcast of "The Time Machine" will air in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format with 5.1-channel surround and also in Spanish.
