'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE PRESIDENTIAL BASH 2004: THE GREAT DEBATES' ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1

NEW YORK -- October 19, 2004 -- The day before Election Day, NBC presents the "Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2004: The Great Debates," a new primetime special celebrating the groundbreaking political satire from "Saturday Night Live's" almost 30 year history. The special airs Monday, November 1 from 10pm to 11pm ET.

The show, which features classic debate parodies from three decades of elections, will also debut brand-new material starring SNL's resident political impressionist Darrell Hammond (President Clinton, Vice President Gore, Vice President Cheney...and much of the rest of the Bush Administration), Seth Meyers (Sen. John Kerry) and Will Forte (Pres. George W. Bush).

As always, "Saturday Night Live" is figuring prominently in topical satire of the current election, presenting hilarious parodies of the Presidential and Vice Presidential Debates since returning live on October 2. In 2000, the show's debate parodies figured directly into the strategy of the candidates with then Vice President Gore studying Hammond's portrayal of him to prepare for his next debate.

The special will feature political parodies focusing on the signature debate parodies the show has become known for including the current cast's Bush-Kerry debates with Meyers and Forte and the now infamous Bush-Gore debate of 2000 with Will Ferrell ("Strategery") and Hammond ("Lockbox"). Also included will be the 1992 Clinton-Bush-Perot debates with Phil Hartman as Clinton and Dana Carvey debating himself in the other two roles, the 1988 Bush-Dukakis debates featuring Carvey and Jon Lovitz ("I can't believe I'm losing to this guy") as well as the show's first debate parody ? the Ford/Carter debate with Chevy Chase ("It was my understanding that there would be no math") and Dan Aykroyd.

"Saturday Night Live" premiered on October 11, 1975 and is from SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer of "SNL" and the executive producer special is Lorne Michaels.
