ABC AND PEPSI LOOK TO MAKE TELEVISION HISTORY DURING THE "PEPSI PLAY FOR A BILLION" GAME SHOW, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, WITH A POTENTIAL $1 BILLION PRIZE

ABC Stars Damon Wayans and Tom Bergeron to Co-Host, With a Special Performance by Destiny's Child

The "Pepsi Play for a Billion" show will give one of 200 contestants a chance to win $1 billion on national television. One finalist is guaranteed to win $1 million during the hour-long, drama-filled game show airing SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

The "Pepsi Play for a Billion" show is the culmination event of Pepsi's sweepstakes which began in May. Throughout the summer, consumers have been able to enter the "Play for a Billion" sweepstakes via specially marked Pepsi products and by entering the sweepstakes codes at www.BillionSweeps.com. There were other opportunities to enter, including through ABC's "Summer of a Billion Laughs" promotion.

Damon Wayans, star of ABC's hit comedy series, "My Wife and Kids," and Tom Bergeron of ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" will co-host the "Pepsi Play for a Billion" show, which will take place in Los Angeles. Destiny's Child, one of the bestselling female groups of all time, will also appear on the show. A new song from one of the group's first performances in nearly two years will air during the program.

Mr. Moneybags, the "Play for a Billion" chimpanzee, will be on hand to help decide the fate of the contestants. Mr. Moneybags will randomly choose a six-digit number and, if the number is an identical match to a six-digit number chosen by one of the 200 contestants, that lucky person will win $1 billion, by far the largest television game show payout ever.

Here's how the tension-filled game show will work:

* Prior to the show, each of the 200 contestants will select five unique, six-digit numbers.
* Mr. Moneybags will help determine the random six-digit billion dollar number. The seven finalists with numbers closest to the winning number will be brought on stage to play the final elimination game.
* During each round of the final elimination game, players are offered a guaranteed cash prize to walk away with and give up their chance to 'Play for a Billion.' Contestants taking the guaranteed cash must surrender their number to the last player standing at the end of the game.
* If no one takes the cash offer in the predetermined time limit for each round, the person with the number furthest away from the billion dollar number is eliminated and walks away with nothing.
* At the end of this game, the last player standing holds his/her number plus all surrendered numbers, wins a guaranteed one million dollars and will soon find out if he/she is also a billionaire!

"Pepsi Play for a Billion" will be produced by Diplomatic for broadcast on ABC, with Michael Davies ("Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") serving as executive producer.

Pepsi awarded $1 million to West Virginia teacher Richard Bay on the first "Play for a Billion" game show last September. He was just two numbers shy of winning one billion dollars. Nearly four million people entered the sweepstakes last year, and Pepsi awarded an additional $390,000 in cash prizes during the game show.
