DESCRIPTION:
(from Smithsonian Channel's press release, August 2021) Along Australia's entire eastern coast is an extraordinary wall of rock known as the Great Divide. Running 2,300 miles, this massive range runs from the icy mountains of Tasmania, through the regal forests of the Central Highlands, past volcanic monuments, all the way north to the most ancient of rainforests. Its diverse landscape is matched by the wide variety of creatures who live here, fierce devils, ancient giants, and silent killers that have evolved remarkable adaptations over millions of years to survive and thrive in these mountains. This new docu-series OVER AUSTRALIA premieres on Wednesday, August 4th at 8PM ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel. The series showcases Australia's stunning mountain ranges and diverse species, which have formed and evolved over millions of years. Explore the Great Divide's towering cliffs, snow-capped peaks, primordial forests, and wildly diverse creatures and discover the story of the Great Dividing Range, captured through breathtaking aerial footage and intimate examinations. Australia's arid outback covers 70% of the continent's terrain, but along the eastern coast is a whole other world of soaring peaks, towering cliffs, and lush forests: the Great Dividing Range. These mountains tell the story of how this ancient land came to be and how its unique species have evolved and adapted to survive. Shot from majestic heights and deep within its diverse worlds, we explore the range that both unites and divides Australia, and the Tasmanian devils, koalas, southern corroboree frogs, and other creatures who call it home.
