Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: "Hairspray Live!" Sparks NBC to Victory

Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (12/7/16):

NBC (8.918 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #1) jumped to the top spot on Wednesday with its telecast of "Hairspray Live!" (8.918 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #2).

FOX (6.621 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.9, #2) then was the silver draw with new episodes of "Lethal Weapon" (6.245 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.4, #5) and "Empire" (6.997 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.5, #1).

Next up was CBS (7.613 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.4, #3) and its trio of "Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X" (8.389 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3), "Criminal Minds" (7.728 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T6) and "Code Black" (6.723 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T9).

Meanwhile, ABC (4.786 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #4) offered up originals from "The Goldbergs" (5.395 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.5, #4), "Speechless" (4.553 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T6), a repeat "Modern Family" (4.229 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T9) and new episodes of "Black-ish" (4.187 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.2, #8) and "Designated Survivor" (5.178 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T9).

And finally, the fall finale of "Arrow" (1.936 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.7, #12) and a new "Frequency" (0.874 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.2, #13) closed out the night on The CW (1.405 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.5, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.8/5; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.4/5 in metered-market households; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.1/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.5/4 in 18-49; "Late Late Show," 0.2/2.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (12/9/15):

CBS (9.109 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) pulled into the top spot on Wednesday with a new "Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance" (9.774 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #2) followed by the fall finales of "Criminal Minds" (9.215 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.9, #5) and "Code Black" (8.339 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #8).

ABC (6.250 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2) then took home the silver with its final 2015 originals from "The Middle" (8.035 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.0, #T3), "The Goldbergs" (7.000 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 2.0, #T3), "Modern Family" (8.178 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.6, #1), "Black-ish" (6.037 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.7, #6) and "Nashville" (4.126 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.8, #13).

Next up was FOX (4.250 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #3) with a repeat "Empire" (3.417 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T9) followed by the special "Taraji and Terrence's White Hot Holidays" (5.082 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.5, #7).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.998 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T4) offered up an encore of "Mat Franco's Got Magic" (4.257 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T9) alongside the new special "The Illusionists" (3.483 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.9, #12).

And finally, the fall finales of "Arrow" (2.783 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T9) and "Supernatural" (1.904 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #14) on The CW (2.343 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T4) closed out the night.
