SUNDAY'S 'DATELINE' TIES FOR #1 IN ITS HOUR AMONG ABC, CBS, NBC AND FOX IN 18-49

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 5, 2012 - Paced by Tuesday's "America's Got Talent," the week's #1 telecast in total viewers, NBC has averaged a 1.0 rating, 3 share in adults 18-49 and 4.2 million viewers overall for the week of August 27-September 2. That puts NBC #2 for the week in total viewers among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

"America's Got Talent" has now ranked #1 among non-sports programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in total viewers for each of its last 12 weeks on the air ("Talent" was preempted during the two full weeks of the London Olympics). Last week, the broad-based hit was also #1 among primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in kids 2-11 and teens 12-17. Wednesday's "America's Got Talent" Results Show ranked #3 for the week in total viewers. In adults 18-49, NBC's top-ranked programs for the week included the Tuesday "Talent" (#4), Wednesday's "Talent" (#7) and Monday's "Grimm" (tied for #12). Rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows.

Primetime averages for the week of August 27-September 2 in adults 18-49 were: Fox (1.3/4), ABC (1.1/4), CBS (1.1/3), NBC (1.0/3) and CW (0.3/1). In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS (4.9 million), NBC (4.2 million), ABC (3.9 million), Fox (3.4 million) and CW (0.7 million).

For the 2011-12 broadcast year to date, NBC is #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adult 18-49 rating and total viewers, running within a tenth of a rating point of first-place Fox in 18-49. NBC is the only network among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox that's up versus one year ago in total viewers and viewers 18-49, 18-34 and 25-54. Averages for the broadcast year through 50 weeks are: Fox (2.7/8), NBC (2.6/7), CBS (2.5/7), ABC (2.2/6) and CW (0.6/2). In overall total viewers, the broadcast-year averages are: CBS (10.0 million), NBC (8.0 million), Fox (7.6 million), ABC (7.4 million) and CW (1.4 million).

NBC highlights for the week of August 27-September 2

* On Monday, "Grimm" won its hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key ratings demographic.

* On Tuesday, "America's Got Talent" ranked #1 in two-hour averages for the time period in 18-49 and total viewers and grew steadily throughout the time period in both categories.

* NBC was the #1 network Tuesday night in total viewers, adults 25-54 and other key measures.

* On Wednesday, "America's Got Talent" won its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in every key ratings category.

* NBC tied for #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox Wednesday night in 18-49 and was #1 outright among those networks in total viewers.

* Friday's "Dateline NBC" grew 29 percent from its first half-hour to its second in 18-49 rating to tie for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the 10:30 half-hour in 18-49.

* On Sunday, "Dateline NBC" tied for #1 in its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and a 10 p.m. ET "Talent" encore ranked #1 in that hour among ABC, CBS and NBC.

Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

On Monday, August 27 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" averaged a 0.9 rating, 3 share in adults 18-49 and 4.2 million viewers overall.

Monday at 9 p.m. ET, "Stars Earn Stripes" delivered a 1.0/2 in 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall. "Stars Earn Stripes" built by 11 percent on its 18-49 lead-in from the 8 p.m. encore of "America's Got Talent." From its first half-hour to its second, "Stars Earn Stripes" grew by 10 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.1 rating from a 1.0) and 22 percent in men 18-49 (1.1 vs. 0.9).

Monday from 10-11 p.m. ET, "Grimm" (1.6/4 in adults 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) led the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key demo, capturing a 45 percent margin of victory over CBS's encore "Hawaii Five-0" (with a 1.6 rating vs. a 1.1) and a 167 percent advantage over ABC's "Castle" rebroadcast (1.6 vs. 0.6). "Grimm's" 1.6 matches the show's best 18-49 rating last season after January 20. Versus "Grimm's average in last May's sweep, this week's telecast was up 14 percent in 18-49 rating (1.6 vs. 1.4). Keep in mind that last season, "Grimm" originals added an average 69 percent to these next-day "live plus same day" 18-49 ratings when Nielsen issued "live plus seven day" results.

On Tuesday, August 28, from 8-10 p.m. ET, "America's Got Talent" (2.5/8 in 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in two-hour averages for the time period in adults 18-49 and total viewers. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "Talent" grew by 33 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.8 from a 2.1) and 23 percent or 2.0 million persons in total viewers (10.7 million vs. 8.7 million).

Tuesday from 10-11:05 p.m. ET, NBC News' coverage of the Republican National Convention averaged a 1.0/3 in 18-49, a 1.5 rating in adults 25-54 and 4.8 million viewers overall, ranking #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC by all three measures.

On Wednesday, August 29 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" averaged a 1.1/4 in 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers overall, growing from its first half-hour to its second by 20 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.2 from a 1.0) and by 13 percent in total viewers (5.2 million vs. 4.6 million). The "Talent" rebroadcast ranked #2 in the hour among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in total viewers.

Wednesday from 9-10 p.m. ET, the "America's Got Talent" Results Show (2.2/6 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) won its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in 18-49, total viewers and all other key measures, establishing an advantage of 38 percent over Fox's second-place "So You Think You Can Dance" in 18-49 (2.2 vs. 1.6 in that hour). "Talent" delivered the #1 results of the night in total viewers. The 9 p.m. "Talent" original built by a 100 percent in 18-49 rating on its lead-in from a rebroadcast in the prior hour.

Wednesday from 10-11:05 p.m. ET, NBC News' coverage of the Republican National Convention averaged a 1.1/3 in 18-49, a 1.3 rating in adults 25-54 and 4.1 million viewers overall, ranking #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the time period by all three measures.

For the night, NBC tied for #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and was #1 outright among those networks in total viewers.

On Thursday, August 30 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "The Office" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.0 million viewers overall, at 8:30, a rebroadcast of "Parks and Recreation" delivered a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 1.6 million viewers overall, and at 9 p.m., "Saving Hope" averaged a 0.5/1 in 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers overall.

Thursday from 10-11:19 p.m. ET, NBC News' coverage of the Republican National Convention averaged a 2.6/4 in 18-49, a 1.2 rating in adults 25-54 and 3.9 million viewers overall.

On Friday, August 31 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall. At 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Grimm" delivered a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 2.0 million viewers overall.

Friday at 10 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" averaged a 0.8/3 in 18-49 and 3.8 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, "Dateline" grew by 29 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 0.9 rating from a 0.7), by 20 percent in adults 25-54 (1.2 vs. 1.0) and by 25 percent in total viewers (4.2 million vs. 3.3 million), to move into a tie for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the 10:30 half-hour in adults 18-49.

Saturday, September 1, from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" averaged a 0.4/2 in 18-49 and 2.0 million viewers overall.

Saturday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" delivered a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall, building from its first half-hour to its second by 40 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 0.7 from a 0.5) and 16 percent in total viewers (3.3 million vs. 2.8 million).

Saturday at 10 p.m. ET, a second rebroadcast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" captured a 0.7/2 in 18-49 and 3.8 million viewers overall, building on its lead-in by 17 percent in adults 18-49, 25 percent in adults 25-54 (to a 1.0 from a 0.8) and 26 percent in total viewers.

On Sunday, September 2, from 7-8 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" averaged a 0.8/3 in 18-49 and 3.3 million viewers overall, to tie for #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49. From its first half-hour to its second, "Dateline" grew by 43 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.0 from a 0.7) and 20 percent in total viewers (3.6 million vs. 3.0 million).

Sunday from 8-10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" delivered a 0.8/3 in 18-49 and 3.0 million viewers overall. For its second hour from 9-10 p.m., the "Talent" encore ranked #2 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key demos.
