FOX KICKS OFF A MIGHTY MIDSEASON!

AMERICAN IDOL Rises, '24' Starts Strong and HUMAN TARGET Hits Its Mark

FOX's midseason openings led the network to a 4.5/12 for the week, driven by a dominant AMERICAN IDOL season premiere, strong returns by HOUSE, FRINGE and BONES, and solid premieres of 24 and new action drama, HUMAN TARGET. FOX remains broadcast's No. 1 network this season across Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.

On Monday at 8p, HOUSE posted a 4.6/12, on par with its prior season average among Adults 18-49 and up +2% over its prior season average in Total Viewers. HOUSE won its 8p among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and all key demos. A special FRINGE followed at 9p and delivered a 2.8/7 among Adults 18-49 showing growth from its prior season average on Thursday of +33% among Adults 18-49, +38% among Adults 18-34 and +38% in Total Viewers.

Tuesday featured the ninth season premiere of AMERICAN IDOL, which posted an 11.8/29 among Adults 18-49 -- up +1% versus last year's debut on 1/13/09. AMERICAN IDOL also showed growth of +9% among Adults 18-34 and outperformed the combined 4-net competition for the night by +55% among Adults 18-49, a much higher advantage than FOX showed last year (+17% vs. combined 4-nets for 1/13/09). In addition, FOX's AMERICAN IDOL dominated the next highest rated network on Tuesday by +237% among Adults 18-49, +365% among Adults 18-34, +827% among Teens and +78% in Total Viewers.

On Thursday, BONES returned with a 3.3/10 among Adults 18-49, its highest Thursday rating ever and its highest on any night of the week in over a year (since Wed., 11/12/08). BONES also delivered its highest rating among Adults 18-34 in one year (since 1/22/09). At 9p FRINGE delivered a 2.6/7 among Adults 18-49 and displayed marked gains vs. its prior season average, increasing +24% among Adults 18-49, +31% among Adults 18-34 and +18% in Total Viewers. In addition, FRINGE tied its highest rating of the season among Adults 18-34. So far this season FOX's regular Thursday programming outperforms last year's regular Thursday programming for the same weeks, increasing +33% among Adults 18-49 and +83% in Total Viewers.

On Sunday, the season premiere of '24' posted a 3.9/10 among Adults 18-49, up +26% from last year's finale on 5/18/09. '24' was also up vs. its finale in Total Viewers by +18% (11.4 vs. 9.7 Mil.) and was the highest rated drama of the night, besting ABC's Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters and CBS's Cold Case.

Self-starting at 8p, the series premiere of HUMAN TARGET posted a 2.9/7 among Adults 18-49.

The ninth season premiere of AMERICAN IDOL posted an 11.8/29 among Adults 18-49, up +1% versus last year's debut on 1/13/09 (11.7/28). AMERICAN IDOL also showed growth of +9% among Adults 18-34 (10.7/30 vs. 9.8/26). AMERICAN IDOL's season premiere last night tied with last season's highest rated IDOL telecast (Wed., 1/14/09) among Adults 18-49.

FOX outperformed the combined 4-net competition for the night by a substantial +55% among Adults 18-49 (11.8 vs. 7.6 for ABC/CBS/NBC/CW), a much higher advantage than FOX showed last year (+17% vs. combined 4-nets for 1/13/09). FOX also showed impressive gains compared to the combined 4-net competition among Adults 18-34 (+81%, 10.7 vs. 5.9, compared with +21% last year), Teens (+278%, 10.2 vs. 2.7 compared with +148% last year) and Total Viewers (+7%, 29.9 vs. 28.0 Mil, compared with no advantage vs. the combined 4-net last year.)

FOX's AMERICAN IDOL dominated the next highest rated network for the night and displayed gains of +237% among Adults 18-49 (11.8/29 vs. 3.5/9 for CBS), +365% among Adults 18-34 (10.7/30 vs. 2.3/7 for CBS), +827% among Teens (10.2/32 vs. 1.1/4 for NBC) and +78% in Total Viewers (29.9 vs. 16.8 for CBS).

FOX posted the highest rated night with entertainment programming on any network so far this season and in fact, in one year among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers (tied with the Wednesday premiere of American Idol on 1/14/09). FOX posted the highest night this season on any network among Adults 18-34 (including both entertainment and sports programming) and in nearly a year (since 2/1/09, Super Bowl night on NBC).

FOX showed a considerable advantage over the next highest rated night of the season, increasing by +74% among Adults 18-49 (11.8/29 vs. 6.8/17 for FOX on 9/21/09), +60% among Adults 18-34 (10.7/30 vs. 6.7/18 for FOX on 9/21/09) and +68% among Total Viewers (29.9 vs. 17.8 for CBS on 1/5/10).

The AMERICAN IDOL premiere ties as the season's highest rated telecast (tied with NBC's NFL Wildcard Game on 1/9/10) among Adults 18-49, while it is the highest rated telecast outright among entertainment programs.

AMERICAN IDOL showed a significant advantage over the season's previous highest rated entertainment telecasts, including +71% in Adults 18-49 (11.8/29 vs. 6.9/17, Simpsons on 1/10/10), +51% in Adults 18-34 (10.7/30 vs. 7.1/20, Simpsons on 1/10/10), +85% in Teens (10.2/32 vs. 5.5/18, Family Guy on 9/27/09) and +40% in Total Viewers (29.9 vs. 21.4, NCIS on 9/29/09).

The Wednesday premiere of AMERICAN IDOL posted a 10.1/27 among Adults 18-49. The combined AMERICAN IDOL Tue/Wed average this week retained 94% of last year's week one performance (11.1 vs. 11.8) even as Wednesday's 90 minute IDOL did not have last year's advantage of being a two-hour telecast.

AMERICAN IDOL from 8-9:30P outperformed the combined 4-net competition in the time period by a substantial +55% among Adults 18-49 (10.1 vs. 6.5 for ABC/CBS/NBC/CW), +84% among Adults 18-34 (9.0 vs. 4.9), +192%, Teens (7.6 vs. 2.6) and +25% in Total Viewers (26.4 vs. 21.2 Mil.)

AMERICAN IDOL was the second highest rated entertainment telecast of the season among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34 and Teens (behind Tuesday's AMERICAN IDOL.)

FOX posted the second highest rated night with entertainment programming on any network so far this season among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers (behind Tuesday's AMERICAN IDOL.)
