ABC News' "Primetime: Family Secrets" is No. 1 in the 10pm Hour With Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, Posting Increases Over the Net's Year-Ago Performances

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's Tuesday lineup of "Wipeout," "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" and "Primetime: Family Secrets" attracted 7.4 million viewers and a 2.7 rating, 8 share in Adults 18-49, leading the night in the key young adult demographic. The Net also won the night in each of the key Men demographics: Men 18-34 (1.8/7), Men 18-49 (2.3/8) and Men 25-54 (2.7/8). In fact, it was the 6th time in the last 7 weeks that ABC has been No. 1 on Tuesday night across all key men demos.

Compared to the same night last year, ABC improved its Tuesday performance by 1.6 million viewers and by 35% in Adults 18-49 (5.8 million & 2.0/7 in Adults 18-49 on 7/24/07).

"Wipeout" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Wipeout" dominated Tuesday's 8 o'clock hour, winning its slot in Viewers, all key Adults and Kids. "Wipeout" outperformed its nearest competitor in the hour by 1.4 million viewers (9.9 million vs. 8.5 million - CBS) and by 100% in Adults 18-49 (3.6/12 vs. 1.8/6 NBC).

"Wipeout" stood as Tuesday's No. 1 TV program among Adults 18-34 (3.0/11) and Adults 18-49 (3.6/12). For the 4th time in its 5 airings, "Wipeout" ranked as the night's No. 1 program among Men 18-49 (3.3/12) and Men 25-54 (3.8/12).

"Wipeout" was up week to week by 1.2 million viewers and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (8.7 million and 3.2/11 on 7/15/08). In addition, the new ABC unscripted series hit series highs in Teens 12-17 (2.7/11) and Kids 2-11 (3.4/13).

"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Opposite stiff competition including CBS' "Big Brother" and NBC's "America's Got Talent," ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" took second place in the 9 o'clock hour among Adults 18-49 (2.2/6) and Adults 18-34 (2.0/7).

"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" was up over ABC's performance in the hour over the same night last year (7/24/07 with an original of "Shaq's Big Challenge") by nearly 1.0 million viewers (5.7 million vs. 4.8 million) and by 16% in Adults 18-49 (2.2/6 vs. 1.9/6).

"Primetime: Family Secrets" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

The season's second airing of ABC News' "Primetime: Family Secrets" saw the newsmagazine win the final hour of primetime in Adults 18-49 (2.2/7) and Adults 25-54 (2.8/8).

On average in the hour, "Primetime: Family Secrets" is seeing increases of 13% in Total Viewers (6.8 million vs. 6.0 million) and 9% in Adults 18-49 (2.4/7 vs. 2.2/7) over the same nights last year (7/17 7/24/07).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 17% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 25% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
