ADOPTED (ABC) - Shawn Vance, Bruce Campbell, Wendie Malick, Maxim Swinton, Tate Moore, Sofia Pernas and Reyn Doi are set to star in Jimmy Kimmel's long-in-the-works single-camera comedy pilot. Vance, whose life inspired the series, plays Shawn Voss, "overconfident like his father and anxious like his mother, Shawn is fresh out of the US Army Special Forces and struggling to adapt to civilian life"; with Campbell as John Voss, "a goofy, optimistic, carefree, and conservative Dad, John is a red-blooded, all-American, business owner who hates negative thoughts... so he doesn't have 'em!"; Malick as Michelle Voss, "an empathetic, overly-attentive, good Christian mother who believes in her kids as much as she worries about them"; Swinton as Daniel Voss, "a recent adoptee from Russia, Daniel is socially unaware, naïve for his age, and speaks heavily accented English"; Moore as Chelsea Voss, "despite being a budding social media "influencer", she's the hippest and smartest person in the house"; Pernas as Dr. Zora, "an adoption specialist, Daniel's homeroom teacher, and the apple of Shawn's eye, Dr. Zora is as intelligent as she is charming"; and Doi as Thumper, "a happy-go-lucky adoptee and Daniel's best friend, his nickname is derived from the term "Bible thumper."" Kimmel's Kimmelot, Brent Montgomery's Wheelhouse Entertainment and ABC Studios are behind the project, written by Kimmel, Vance and Daril Fannin. (Deadline.com)
COWBOY BEBOP (Netflix) - Co-star Daniella Pineda took to social media with the news filming has been completed on the long-in-the-works live-action series. (@notdaniellapineda)
DOOM PATROL (HBO Max) - Michelle Gomez has been tapped to play Madame Rouge on the new season, described as "a complicated and electrifying eccentric who arrives at Doom Manor with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it." (Variety.com)
FIRST LADY, THE (Showtime) - The anthology series, toplined by Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson, has cast the following: Aya Cash as Esther Liebowitz, "press secretary to Betty Ford, who often butts heads with Betty for suggesting more conservative strategies than Betty wants to embrace"; Jake Picking as young Jerry Ford, "an ex-college football player just returned from the service, who meets Betty Ford in Michigan and marries her in 1948, just as he wins his first Congressional seat"; Cayden Boyd as Michael Ford, "Jerry and Betty Ford's oldest son"; Marc Hills as Jack Ford, "Jerry and Betty Ford's second eldest son"; Ben Cook as Steven Ford, "Jerry and Betty Ford's youngest son"; Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as Martha Graham, "an American modern dancer and choreographer whose technique reshaped American dance"; Thomas E. Sullivan as Bill Warren, "Betty Ford's first husband, a salesman she marries in 1942 and then divorces in 1947"; and Patrice Johnson Chevannes as Clara Powell, "the Ford family's longtime nanny and family friend, who remained one of Betty Ford's closest confidants during her addiction treatment." (Deadline.com)
GORDITA CHRONICLES, THE (HBO Max) - Newcomer Olivia Goncalves has scored the lead role on the comedy pilot, which centers on Carlota "Cucu" Castelli, "a willful 12-year-old Dominican immigrant with a heart of gold. Cucu leaves her home and her parochial school in Santo Domingo to live in Miami and pursue the American Dream during the hedonistic 1980s after her father, a marketing executive with a large airline, gets transferred there. Cucu meets head-on the challenges of being an immigrant in a strange new world with humor, bravado and some really bad choices." (Deadline.com)
GOSSIP GIRL/LEGACIES/YOU (HBO Max/The CW/Netflix) - Leslie Morgenstein, founder of Alloy Entertainment, has signed "a contract extension with Warner Bros. Television Group that will see him continue as President of the books-to-TV and film company." He'll continue as an executive producer on the aforementioned trio as well as any future development from Alloy Entertainment. (Deadline.com)
GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Phylicia Rashad will drop by the show's 15th episode this season and "bring true power, fun and grace in a role that touches a chord about the voice of the people." (TVLine.com)
NCIS (CBS) - Katrina Law will drop by the final two episodes of the current season as NCIS REACT Special Agent Jessica Knight, "a formidable REACT Team agent who specializes in hostage negotiations and handles daily high-risk operations with skill and precision. Sharp, athletic and tough, she was raised by a single mother and had to fight for everything in life and is damn good at it. Fiercely tenacious and with a wry sense of humor, Jessica is married to a stay-at-home dad who is raising their infant son." Said role has the option to become a series regular. (Deadline.com)
QUEENS (ABC) - Taylor Sele is the latest addition to the drama pilot as Eric Jones: "In the late 90s, Eric Jones struck gold when the group he managed, the Nasty Bitches, reached the pinnacle of hip-hop. A Queens hustler through and through, Eric is always looking for how to secure his next bag, and he's really good at it. A handsome playboy with a magnetic smile, Eric's dalliances with women were partly to blame for the Nasty Bitches' break up. Today, Eric remains one of the top music managers in the business, representing hip-hop's current "it girl," Lil Muffin (Pepi Sonuga). But Eric is in the throes of mid-life crisis as he takes stock of his life, past mistakes and the woman that got away. Driven by nostalgia, Eric sets the wheels in motion for the Nasty Bitches' reunion. The question is: will he find what he's looking for?" (Deadline.com)
STAR TREK: PRODIGY (Paramount+) - Co-creators Kevin and Dan Hageman have signed a multi-year overall deal with producers CBS Studios. The pact covers their duties on the upcoming animated series as well as any future development. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED HUEY LEWIS PROJECT (FOX, New!) - Leila Gerstein is spearheading a potential anthology series at the network billed as "a self-contained romantic comedy inspired by the music of a beloved pop star. Huey Lewis sets the beat as the inspiration of Season 1, which interweaves a present day love story with a teen rom-com set in 1986. It is conceived as an homage to the great rom-coms of the '80s and '90s and a reminder that the Power of Love is, indeed, a curious thing." Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor will also executive produce the project, which has a script-to-series commitment, for FOX Entertainment. (Deadline.com)
WILD CARDS (Peacock) - The proposed adaptation of George R.R. Martin's book series has relocated to Peacock, in which "an alien pathogen known as the Wild Card virus is released over Manhattan in 1946, altering the course of human history. The virus rewrites DNA, mutating its survivors. A lucky few are granted awe-inspiring superpowers, while the sad majority are left with often repulsive physical deformities." Andrew Miller spearheaded the original take, which was set up at Hulu in 2018. The search is underway for a new writer. Martin will executive produce along with Melinda Snodgrass and Vince Gerardis for Universal Content Productions. (Variety.com)
WOMEN OF THE MOVEMENT (ABC) - Joshua Caleb Johnson has landed a recurring role on the limited series as Wheeler Parker Jr., "Emmett Till's beloved best friend and cousin who went on vacation with him to Mississippi in 1955, a vacation that would change both of their lives forever." (Deadline.com)
WU-TANG: AN AMERICAN SAGA (Hulu) - Uyoata Udi has been cast in the upcoming season as Jason Richard Hunter aka Rebel/Inspectah Deck: "Raised in the rough Park Hill projects in Staten Island, Rebel has aspirations of becoming a successful rapper. He has a quiet confidence that can come across as lackadaisical, but he's always observing, picking up on small nuances and character traits that others miss. He's a perfectionist who is constantly perfecting his craft - practicing and creating rhymes from his everyday observations. His introspective demeanor can fool you into thinking he's easygoing, but if tested he won't back down." Rapper Joey Bada$$ originally appeared as Inspectah Deck for three episodes in season one.
