HEAD OF THE CLASS (HBO Max) - Isabella Gomez is the first to be cast in the reboot series pilot as Alicia Adams, "a whip-smart, funny, blunt high school teacher we all wish we had. A former GPA junkie, Alicia thought she had the world all figured out when she was in school. Teaching for the first time, Alicia's is figuring out what she really wants in life." (Deadline.com)
LA JAURÍA (HBO Max) - The streamer has scored the U.S. to the Chilean series, in which Blanca, student leader of the feminist movement in an occupied school, goes missing: hours later, a video of a group raping the girl goes viral. In their aim to find her, a police squad formed by three women puts their lives and that of their families at risk. As they look for Blanca and investigate, they will find out that behind this gender crime there is much more than just one offender. The series premiered on Prime Video in Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain in July. A second season was ordered a few weeks later however it's unknown if it will also land on HBO Max. (Variety.com)
LOL: ITALY (Amazon, New!) - The streaming service has commissioned an Italian version of its "Last One Laughing" format in which "10 comedians go head-to-head for six consecutive hours to see who can keep a straight face while simultaneously trying to make their opponents laugh." Italian rapper Fedez will host said incarnation, from Endemol Shine Italy. (Deadline.com)
MAID (Netflix) - Xavi de Guzman will recur on the upcoming series as Ethan, "the childhood friend of Nick Robinson's Sean. Ethan and Sean both work in the local bar/restaurant." (Deadline.com)
NEVERS, THE (HBO) - Joss Whedon has bowed out of the long-in-the-works series, releasing a statement saying: "This year of unprecedented challenges has impacted my life and perspective in ways I could never have imagined, and while developing and producing The Nevers has been a joyful experience, I realize that the level of commitment required moving forward, combined with the physical challenges of making such a huge show during a global pandemic, is more than I can handle without the work beginning to suffer. I am genuinely exhausted, and am stepping back to martial my energy towards my own life, which is also at the brink of exciting change. I am deeply proud of the work we have done; I'm grateful to all my extraordinary cast and collaborators, and to HBO for the opportunity to shape yet another strange world. The Nevers is a true labor of love, but after two plus years of labor, love is about all I have to offer. It will never fade." HBO issued its own statement: "We have parted ways with Joss Whedon. We remain excited about the future of The Nevers and look forward to its premiere in the summer of 2021." (CinemaBlend.com)
