81 WORDS (FX, New!) - Steven Canals is developing a limited series at the cable channel about gay rights pioneers Frank Kameny and Barbara Gittings, "who risked their career and reputation to conspire with the GAYPA - a clandestine group of closeted psychiatrists - and challenge the American Psychiatric Association's definition of homosexuality." The project is based on Alix Spiegel's installment of "This American Life" and Bennett Singer and Patrick Sammon's upcoming PBS documentary "Cured," all of whom will receive producing credits. Pal Pictures' Elisabeth Seldes and Neri Tannenbaum will executive produce alongside Canals via his 20th Century Fox Television-based Story Ave. Productions. (Deadline.com)
BRIANBOX (Hulu, New!) - David Kajganich is spearheading a small screen take on Christian Cantrell's short story which "takes place after a climate engineering experiment fails and casts the planet into a sudden ice age, forcing the world's most powerful nations to compete for the last remaining habitable regions along the equator. As the surviving superpowers turn on each other, a young weapons specialist is brought in to create a revolutionary, self-replicating, A.I. army, that will transform the fate of humanity." The project is set up at Fox 21 Television Studios with The Littlefield Company's Warren Littlefield also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
GROWN-ISH (Freeform) - Co-star Yara Shahidi and her business partner and mother, Keri Shahidi, have signed an overall deal with ABC Studios. The pact calls for the duo to develop new series projects via their newly launched production company 7th Sun on an exclusive basis. (Deadline.com)
INVINCIBLE (Amazon) - Robert Kirkman's upcoming comic-book-turned-animated series has cast Zachary Quinto and Khary Payton in unspecified roles. They'll join the previously announced ensemble which includes Steven Yeun (Mark Grayson), Zazie Beetz (Amber Bennett), Andrew Rannells (William Clockwell), Walton Goggins (Cecil Stedman), Mark Hamill (Art), Gillian Jacobs (Atom Eve), Jason Mantzoukas (Rex Splode), Seth Rogen (Allen the Alien) and J.K. NINE PERFECT STRANGERS (Hulu) - Grace Van Patten is the latest to be tapped as one of the title roles on the limited series. She'll play Zoe alongside the previously announced Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Manny Jacinto, Melvin Gregg and Samara Weaving. (Deadline.com)
STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS (CBSAA) - Paul Scheer will recur on the upcoming animated entry as Lt. Commander Andy Billups, "the chief engineer on the USS Cerritos." (Deadline.com)
WALKING DEAD, THE (AMC) - Margot Bingham has been cast on the series as Stephanie, "an enigmatic survivor of the zombie outbreak in Charleston, West Virginia, who connects via radio with Josh McDermitt's Eugene Porter."
