99 PROBLEMS (CBS, New!) - Austen Earl ("The Millers") has sold a hybrid format comedy to the Eye about "three very different couples from different backgrounds who all have a child in the same first-grade class and are exposed to the same inciting problem each week - which affects them in different ways." Amigos de Garcia's Greg Garcia and Alix Jaffe also serve as executive producers for CBS Television Studios. (Deadline.com)
AMERICAN HERITAGE (ABC, New!) - Taylor Hamra ("Nashville") has sold a new drama to the Alphabet about "two families of vastly different cultures who suddenly collide when they realize their histories aren't so dissimilar after all and are forced to work together to run LA's premier real estate company." Sony Pictures Television-based Pascal Pictures is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. The company's Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
BLACK LIGHTNING (FOX, New!) - Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil's proposed small screen take on the DC Comics hero has found a home at FOX with a pilot production commitment. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions also serve as executive producers of the project, from Warner Bros. Television and Akil Productions. (Deadline.com)
DAMNATION (USA) - David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) has signed on to direct and executive produce the drama pilot. (Deadline.com)
FIRST RESPONDERS (NBC, New!) - Writer Jesse Stern and director Brad Peyton have sold a potential drama to the Peacock billed as "a dynamic, high-action procedural about young veterans struggling to reintegrate into society, while heroically saving civilian lives along the way. The elite team is the best Search and Rescue operation in the country, and is run by husband-and-wife duo, Doc and Lil Pierce, whose Southern California coastal base provides a sense of community and surrogate family for their ex-military staff." ASAP Entertainment's Jeff Fierson, One Race Television's Vin Diesel and Samantha Vincent also serve as executive producers for Universal Television with Shana Waterman as a co-executive producer. NIX, THE (New!) - Nathan Hill's bestselling first novel is being developed as a TV series by director J.J. Abrams and actress Meryl Streep. Said effort details "a sprawling generational tale that focuses on a hippie-era mother who gets national press exposure for throwing rocks at a conservative governor on the presidential campaign trail. Before you know it, her estranged son - a professor, aspiring novelist and general underachiever - seizes an opportunity to get himself out of debt by writing a scathing profile of his estranged mother." Warner Bros. Television-based Bad Robot Productions is producing. (Deadline.com)
WOMEN IN BLACK (ABC, New!) - Amy B. Harris ("Wicked City") has sold a new drama to the Alphabet billed as "a funny and touching exploration of four widows at very different ages and stages of their lives as they deal with love and loss, the challenges of parenting, the hilarious horrors of dating, and the joys of starting anew as they learn how to define themselves by the futures they create and the friendships they make." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Jamie Tarses, Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of the newly launched Bluegrass FanFare likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com)
WORLD'S END (TBS) - Aasif Mandvi, Maya Kazan, Robin Bartlett, Ajay Naidu and James Ortiz will round out the cast on the comedy pilot. Mandvi will play Dr. White, "the head of Kingsley Hospital"; with Kazan as Maggie, "who initially flirts coquettishly with Henry (Hamish Linklater), then bites his hand and claims he assaulted her"; Bartlett as Hildy, who "suffers from a catastrophic depression and year-round seasonal affect disorder - yet has a luminous beauty to her"; Naidu as Karl Magnus, "a mathematic genius who becomes an unlikely revolutionary leader amongst the inmates"; and Ortiz as Martin, "Dr. White's prized patient and mentee at Kingsley Hospital that gives every impression of being on staff."
