FOX Adds Four, Cancels Five as Upfront Looms
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX has added four more series to its 2011-12 season roster - dramas "Alcatraz" and "The Finder" and comedies "The New Girl" and "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" - network sources have confirmed to the site.

The quartet joins previous scripted pickups "Terra Nova," "Allen Gregory" and "Napoleon Dynamite."

[UPDATED 9:01 PM!] In addition, bubble series "Human Target," "Breaking In," "The Chicago Code," "Traffic Light" and "Lie to Me" are all understood to have been canceled.

"Alcatraz," from co-creators Bryan Wynbrandt, Steven Lilien and Elizabeth Sarnoff, tracks a team of FBI agents as they try to unravel the mystery behind a group of Alcatraz prisoners and guards who suddenly appear in the present day after going missing 30 years prior. The Warner Bros. Television-based show's ensemble cast includes Jason Butler Harner, Jonny Coyne, Jorge Garcia, Parminder Nagra, Robert Forster, Sam Neill, Santiago Cabrera and Sarah Jones.

"Finder" stars Geoff Stults as Walter Sherman, a former Iraqi soldier with an uncanny gift to unearth anyone and anything. Hart Hanson penned the 20th Century Fox Television-based project, which was set up in an episode of "Bones" last month. Michael Clarke Duncan and Saffron Burrows also star.

Zooey Deschanel stars in "New Girl," about an optimistic Midwestern woman who moves into a New York apartment with three juvenile guys (Max Greenfield, Jake M. Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr.). Liz Meriwether is behind the 20th Century Fox Television-based half-hour, which also stars Hannah Simone. Wayans involvement is in second position to the ABC comedy "Happy Endings," which is still under consideration for a second season.

And finally, "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" follows two divorced women (Jaime Pressly, Katie Finneran) who now have daughters (Kristi Lauren, Aisha Dee) just like the girls who picked on them in high school. Warner Bros. Television is behind the effort, which was created by Ellen Kreamer and Sherry Bilsing-Graham. Chad Coleman, Eric Sheffer Stevens, Kevin Rahm and Rosa Blasi also star.

Not making the cut are comedies "Council of Dads," "Iceland," "Outnumbered" and "Tagged"; and dramas "Locke & Key" and "Weekends at Bellevue." Three other pilots - "Exit Strategy," "Little in Common" and "Untitled Joe Port/Joe Wiseman Project" (also known as "Family Album") - may be retooled for possible midseason consideration while a fourth, the Kiefer Sutherland-led "Touch," has yet to film.
