Development Update: Wednesday, September 9
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

CHASE (NBC, New!) - Jennifer Johnson ("Cold Case") is set to reteam with Jerry Bruckheimer for a new drama "set inside a unit charged with tracking fugitives." The project, which has a put pilot commitment from the Peacock, hails from Warner Bros. Television and Bruckheimer's self-titled banner. The company's Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed are also attached as executive producer and co-executive producer, respectively. Johnson, who recently inked a three-year overall deal with Warner Bros., then will pen the hour and executive produce with Bruckheimer.

COVERT AFFAIRS (USA) - Peter Gallagher ("The O.C.") is the latest addition to the drama pilot, about Annie Walker (Piper Perabo), "a multilingual CIA trainee who joins the agency while reeling over a mysterious ex-boyfriend who appears to be of particular interest to her bosses." He'll play CIA director Arthur Campbell, "a regal man and former Naval officer who loves a good fight, great scotch and a filthy joke." He joins the previously cast Anne Dudek, Christopher Gorham, Eric Lively and Kari Matchett.

CRASH (Starz) - Peggy Lipton ("The Mod Squad") has booked a multi-episode arc on the show's second season. She'll play "former hippie flower child knockout Suzy Fields, the estranged ex-wife of former record producer Ben Cendars (Dennis Hopper) who is now married to Ben's close friend from years ago, Owen Fields (Keith Carradine), a legendary '60s author." Lipton will take over for Valerie Perrine, who had to bow out of said role due to her recent back surgery. The new season of "Crash" launches Friday, September 18 at 10:00/9:00c.

PUNK'D (MTV) - TV Guide Network has snagged the off-network rights to the former MTV staple. The pact, which actually took effect on July 20, gives the fledging cable channel access to the show's 65 half-hour episodes. To date "Punk'd" has already posted year-to-year gains for the network, including a 63% boost among adults 18-49.

UNTITLED SCOTT ROSENBAUM PROJECT (FOX, New!) - "Chuck" executive producer Scott Rosenbaum is developing a new drama at the network that mixes the Western and sci-fi genres. The project is set up the Warner Bros. Television-based Wonderland Sound and Vision with Rosenbaum writing and executive producing alongside the company's McG and Peter Johnson. As for specifics, the untitled hour - which has a script commitment with a significant penalty should it not go to pilot - tells the story of "a gunslinger caught between worlds." Said effort is the result of a blind script deal Rosenbaum had with the studio.
