"BRAVO'S BIG PICTURE" WEEKEND MOVIE STRAND LAUNCHES THIS MONTH
REBRANDED FILM BLOCK TO INCLUDE "BIG DADDY," "CASINO" AND "RAINMAN"
NEW YORK -- APRIL 4, 2005 -- As part of Bravo's rebranding efforts, which was launched on-air and off-air in January, the channel relaunches its popular film block and kicks off "Bravo's Big Picture," a weekend movie strand that launches this month. Driving viewers to their couches over the weekend, the new weekend movie strand will feature major film releases across all genres, which reflect upon the channel's pop culture and arts entertainment sensibility. The films will air every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
"Bravo viewers are passionate about their movies, the big stars and the rich storylines," said Zalaznick. "We're excited to be able to offer films from our rich library, providing a wonderful complement to the unexpected, fresh original series and programs currently offered on the network."
The upcoming hit movies premiering on "Bravo's Big Picture" weekend include:
"BIG DADDY," starring Adam Sandler, Joey Lauren Adams and Jon Stewert, features Sandler as a thirty-two-year-old law school graduate who takes custody of a five-year-old boy in a misguided attempt to impress his soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend. Sonny is faced with the challenges of sleep deprivation, irritating children's songs and bedwetting. However, he embraces his role as a temporary dad, taking somewhat of an unconventional approach to child rearing. Bravo Premiere in April at 8 pm ET/PT.
"CASINO," starring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci and directed by Martin Scorsese, depicts Las Vegas' glitter and glamour, but also its cruelty and grit. Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro are mobsters who move to Las Vegas to make their mark. Seen through their eyes, each as a foil to the other, the details of 70's and 80's mob activity are revealed. Intertwined through the movie, you'll find stories of love, drugs and violence. Bravo Premiere in May at 8 pm ET/PT.
"RAIN MAN," starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, follows selfish yuppie Charlie Babbitt when his father dies and leaves a fortune - to Raymond, the institutionalized scholar brother that Charlie didn't know he had. The story takes them on a cross-country journey of discovery. Bravo Premiere in May at 8 pm ET/PT.
"THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is a drama charting the wonderful and often dangerous adventures of The Musketeers beginning with the rescue of a mysterious prisoner from a fortress island prison. Soon they realize that their mission may lead to the destruction of the very throne they serve. Bravo Premiere in June at 8 pm ET/PT.
"ELIZABETH," starring Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Ruch and Joseph Fiennes, is set in a troubled England in 1554. Finances and religion have divided the country as the ailing Queen "Bloody" Mary attempts to restore Catholicism as the national faith. She has no heir, and her greatest fear--that her Protestant half-sister Elizabeth will assume the throne after her death--is realized. Still, the late Queen Mary has her loyalists. The newly crowned Elizabeth finds herself knee-deep in dethroning schemes while also dodging assassination attempts. Elizabeth strikes against her enemies before they get to her first. Her rise ultimately entails rejecting love and marriage to redefine herself as the indisputable Virgin Queen. Bravo Premiere in June at 8 pm ET/PT.
Other movies airing during the "Big Picture" movie weekends include: "Hoosiers," "Platoon," "12 Monkeys," "Backdraft," "Apollo 13," "Tommy Boy," "Silverado" and "The Bird Cage."
