LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- In a startling achievement, USA finished the week of July 26-August 1 with the top three series on basic cable among total viewers and adults 25-54 thanks to its trio of "Monk," "The Dead Zone" and "The 4,400."
"Monk" (5.40 million, 4.2 household rating) moved ahead of "The 4,400" (5.01 million, 3.5 household rating) on Friday to become the top draw among total viewers while "The Dead Zone" (4.51 million) rounded out the top three on basic cable.
On the flip side, "The Dead Zone" was the number one series last week among both adults 18-49 (2.5 rating) and adults 25-54 (2.7 rating) while "Monk" (adults 18-49: 1.9 rating, adults 25-54: 2.6 rating) and "The 4,400" (adults 18-49: 2.3 rating, adults 25-54: 2.5 rating) finished close behind the Sunday drama.
Overall this summer, "The 4,400" is leading the pack with 6.5 million viewers on average followed by "Monk" (4.9 million) and "The Dead Zone" (3.2 million).
The news comes as basic cable continues to reap the benefits of original scripted programming during the summer as series such as Sci Fi's "Stargate SG-1" (2.9 million on average) and "Stargate Atlantis" (3.7 million), FX's "Nip/Tuck" (3.4 million) and "Rescue Me" (3.5 million) and TNT's "The Grid" (3.9 million) have all posted banner numbers.
