NBC to Burn Off 'Boomtown' Episodes
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC is giving viewers a chance to catch a glimpse of "Boomtown" one last time as the Peacock announced this week it will burn off three of the four remaining produced episodes of the series on Saturday, December 27. All three installments will air back-to-back that night beginning at 8:00/7:00c.

Here's a breakdown of the episodes with descriptions taken from NBC:

"WANNABE" (8:00/7:00c) - RECRUIT OFFICER TERESA UNCOVERS MURDER AT THE POLICE ACADEMY - When recruit officer Teresa Ortiz (Lana Parilla) discovers the body of a drowned classmate while in the middle of her police academy training, Detectives Stevens (Donnie Wahlberg) and Smith (Mykelti Williamson) lead the investigation into this murder. Meanwhile, as Pierce (Vanessa Williams) finishes out her final hours at central, she teams up with officers Hechler (Gary Basaraba) and Turcotte (Jason Gedrick) to catch a pair of robbers masquerading as LAPD officers. Neal McDonough also stars.

"HAYSTACK" (9:00/8:00c) - BACK ROBBERS BARRICADED IN A WESTSIDE MALL HOLD TERESA HOSTAGE - When a trio of murderous bank robbers barricade themselves inside a Westside mall taking several hostages including Teresa (Lana Parilla), Detectives Stevens (Donnie Wahlberg), Smith (Mykelti Williamson) and Pierce (Vanessa Williams) respond to the scene to end the stand-off. While Pierce attempts to talk the men down, the detectives along with the help of officer Hechler (Gary Basaraba), attempt to free the hostage before the gunmen decide to continue the killing spree. Neal McDonough and Jason Gedrick also star.

"THE HOLE-IN-THE-WALL GANG" (10:00/9:00c) - BROTHERS FOR LIFE; DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE A TWENTY YEAR-OLD FRATERNITY MURDER -- When a young couple remodeling their dilapidated new home, uncovers a corpse hidden in a basement wall, Detectives Stevens (Donnie Wahlberg), Smith (Mykelti Williamson) and Pierce (Vanessa Williams) believe the body to be link to an African American fraternity who previously occupied the house. Arranging a reunion of fraternity brothers, the detectives discover the prime suspects in this 20 year-old murder to be three of Los Angeles' most prominent citizens who believed at the time, that the victim - a fraternity pledge - was stealing for the house. Gary Basaraba, Neal McDonough, Jason Gedrick and Lana Parrilla also star.

The news leaves "The Big Picture," featuring guest stars Howard Hesseman and Virginia Madsen, as the sole "Boomtown" episode left on the shelf. NBC canceled the series last month due to disastrously low ratings in its new Friday, 10:00/9:00c home this season (read the story).
