MTV Announces Summer Slate
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- "The Real World" and "Road Rules," two pioneers in the reality television genre," will launch new seasons in June as music channel MTV announced its plans for midseason and beyond to the press today:

RETURNING SERIES

-- "The Real World: Paris," the 13th edition of the decade old series, will premiere on Tuesday, June 3 at 10:00/9:00c. This marks the second time the series has ventured outside the U.S., the first being its London incarnation in 1995.

-- "Road Rules: South Pacific" will mark its 12th season when it premieres on Monday, May 26 at 10:00/9:00c.

-- A new season of "Making the Band II," featuring P. Diddy's newly formed rap group, will launch on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:00/9:00c.

-- "The Osbournes" will debut its third, and rumored final, season on Tuesday, June 10 at 10:30/9:30c.

-- Also getting a second season is the makeover series "Made" with new episodes bowing Saturday, June 28 at noon eastern as well as new seasons of "Cribs" (July, date/time T.B.A.) and "True Life" (Thursday, July 10 at 10:00/9:00c).

No mention was made of the fates of "3-South," "Clone High, U.S.A.," "Scratch & Burn," "FM Nation," "Suspect: True Crime Stories" or "Tough Enough."

NEW SERIES

-- Fresh off his week long stint as the initial co-host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Snoop Dogg will make the leap to sketch comedy when his new series "Doggy Fizzle Televizzle" premieres on Sunday, June 22 at 10:00/9:00c. MTV has committed to six episodes of the series, which originally started as a special that aired on the network on November 25. The series was created by Snoop along with Michele Dix, Jesse Ignjatovic and Vernon Chatman.

-- Paired with "Televizzle" will be Earvin "Magic" Johnson's street basketball series "Who's Got Game?" which bows that same night at 10:30/9:30c.

-- "That '70s Show's" Aston Kutcher will be the featured player in a new hidden camera series that will focus only on torturing Kutcher's celebrity friends, including Justin Timberlake. The series, entitled "Punk'd," has an eight episode commitment and premieres Monday, March 17 at 10:30/9:30c. Kutcher and Jason Goldberg created the show.

-- Looking to find its own "search for a..." niche, the cable network will premiere "Surf Girls," a new reality series that will follow 15 contestants as they hit surfing locations from Hawaii to Australia in a quest to land a lucrative professional sponsorship deal with surf giant Quiksilver's offshoot Roxy. The series bows Monday, May 12 at 10:30/9:30c. No specific episode order was mentioned.

-- Want to sing with your favorite artist? That's the premise to "TRL Presents: Duets." The series gives fans a chance to record a duet with their favorite artist, that is of course if it's one of the participating ones. Usher, Vanessa Carlton, B2K and Blink-182 has all signed on to appear in one of the series' five episodes. Look for "Duets" on May 5-9 at 5:00/4:00c.

-- Lastly, look for April 14-18 to be labeled as "TRL At Your School Week" as the popular series will track various superstars as they return to their old high schools. As a special bonus, "TRL" will take over one lucky high school to throw a huge homecoming bash.

No start date was given for its new "Spider-Man" animated series or its in limbo series version of "Varsity Blues."
