IN A SATURDAY DOUBLE FEATURE, "48 HOURS" INVESTIGATES TWO COMPLEX MURDER CASES WHERE WOMEN HOLD KEY INFORMATION

"Death of an Olympian" at 9:00 PM, ET/PT

"The Hit" at 10:00 PM, ET/PT

48 HOURS investigates two complex murder mysteries where women hold key pieces of the story, in a double feature to be broadcast Saturday, May 27 (9:00 PM, ET/PT and 10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

At 9:00 PM, Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS report on the death of Olympic hero Dave Laut, who was shot six times with his own gun, in an encore of "The Death of an Olympian." Laut's wife, Jane, pulled the trigger. Was it cold-blooded murder? She says she had no choice.

"He was going to kill me," Jane Laut told Moriarty. "I didn't think I was going to live that night."

On August 27, 2009, Jane Laut called 9-1-1 and told a dispatcher that she and her husband had heard a noise outside. They went to look together, but he sent her inside. She said she heard shots. Police found Dave dead from multiple gunshot wounds. She continued with that story when talking to police at the stationhouse, too, police say. But hours later, she changed her story. This time, she said that she had been abused verbally and physically, and that night she thought the Olympic hero was going to kill her and their 10-year-old son.

So what happened? Was Jane Laut just a heartless killer who wanted to end her marriage? Or was she the woman who kept a lifetime of abuse secret?

And at 10:00 PM, Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS explore the murder of colorful entrepreneur and Las Vegas gambler Gary Triano in an encore of "The Hit." On Nov. 1, 1996, Triano finished up a round of golf at the La Paloma Country Club in Tucson, Ariz., and headed to the parking lot. When he got into his car, it exploded. He was dead.

"I immediately thought: who is it that he hadn't paid?" Pamela Phillips, Triano's ex-wife told 48 HOURS. "Before the bombing, Gary was totally in fear - going around with a gun. He had life threats, I had life threats, the children had life threats - we're talking about Mexican Mafia people you don't cross. There were serious, serious things going on."

"The Hit" is a story that goes inside the world of the high-stakes tribal gaming business and features a power couple with a social calendar that mixed them with the likes of Donald Trump and his then-wife Marla Maples. The Trianos lived the good life until the bottom fell out. Gary Triano was pushed out of the tribal business. He had gambling debts of $1.8 million to one Las Vegas casino and hundreds of thousands owed to Mexican investors, according to private investigators. The couple separated in 1993 and eventually divorced.

But who wanted Triano dead bad enough to put a pipe bomb in a duffle bag on the seat of his car?
