IN A SATURDAY NIGHT DOUBLE FEATURE, "48 HOURS" INVESTIGATES TWO CASES WHERE LOVED ONES DIE UNDER QUESTIONABLE CIRCUMSTANCES AND THE STRUGGLE TO GET JUSTICE

"FATHER AND SON" - 9:00 PM, ET/PT

"THE STRANGE CASE OF KURT SONNENFELD" - 10:00 PM, ET/PT

Saturday, June 18, 2016

48 HOURS' Saturday double feature begins at 9:00 PM, ET/PT, June 18 on the CBS Television Network with the broadcast of "Father and Son," about the latest update in Susan Spencer and 48 HOURS' investigation into the 2011 death of Uta von Schwedler, who was found in her bathtub by her then boyfriend. It took six weeks for the release of the autopsy report, which listed the cause of death as drowning. The manner of her death was listed as "undetermined," leaving open the possibility of suicide. Evidence at the scene even suggested von Schwedler might have killed herself.

But her son, Pelle Wall, was convinced his father, Johnny Wall, had killed her, and he vowed to do whatever he could to get his father convicted. Johnny Wall maintained he had nothing to do with his Uta's death. He was arrested and charged in 2013 with killing his wife. He went on trial in February 2015. Saturday's encore broadcast has the latest twist in a case that 48 HOURS has been covering for four years.

Then, at 10:00 PM, ET/PT, an encore of 48 HOURS: "The Strange Case of Kurt Sonnenfeld" features Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS' investigation into the death of Nancy Sonnenfeld and the case against her husband, Kurt Sonnenfeld, who maintains she committed suicide. Nancy Sonnenfeld died from a gunshot to the head in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2002.

Within hours of Nancy's death, Kurt Sonnenfeld was arrested for her murder. Shortly before Sonnenfeld was to go on trial, prosecutors suddenly dropped the charge, citing insufficient evidence at the time. But the investigation continued, and two years later, with additional evidence in hand, prosecutors refiled the murder charge. By then Sonnenfeld had moved to Argentina. There he remarried and launched a campaign to clear his name by giving interviews to local media. He claims that the real reason U.S. authorities want him back is that he saw something while working as a FEMA cameraman at ground zero that the government wants him to stop talking about. Will the family ever get justice?
